“I knew you would try to bench me. And honestly, I wasn’t sure what to think of everything. It was a lot to take in all at once.”
Henrik nodded. He understood her reasoning. And she wasn’t wrong. He would’ve kept her out of it, or at least tried. He didn’t speak right away. He wanted to calm himself and his dragon.
“I can only imagine,” Henrik said quietly. “That was a lot you had to deal with. I’m sorry. But you should’ve told me it was you.”
“You know now. I can’t turn back the clock,” she squeezed his hand.
“Do you need anything?”
“I wouldn’t say no to some water. Letty and I probably both need to eat something too.”
“Cillian is getting a doctor here to check you over.” She opened her mouth. “Don’t argue. We need to patch up your bite marks. Fucker got to bite you before I did.”
Quinn’s eyes widened. “Excuse me?”
Henrik chuckled. “Not like that, Doc. Dragons don’t drink blood.” He sobered. “Wait…Cillian, is she going to turn now?”
Quinn burst out laughing. “Do you not know how vampires are made?”
Henrik glowered at her. “Until a year ago, I didn’t really socialize with them or research them. No, I don’t know how vampires are made.”
Cillian chuckled behind him. “Don’t you think I would’ve warned you if she were going to turn into a vampire? Good grief, man. You need a vacation.”
Henrik snarled at him and then turned back to Quinn. Their eyes locked. Her cheeks bloomed with pink and her pupils dilated.
She broke their eye contact. “How are all the women?”
Letty patted Quinn’s head. “They’re all doing well. Don’t worry about them. You need to heal.”
Henrik hadn’t even taken stock of Letty or any of the other women. He was being an asshole and he needed to get a grip. “You relax. I’m going to check on everyone else. Make sure we don’t need anything.”
Quinn nodded.
His gut clenched when she yawned. She was exhausted. After this was over, he was going to take her on a vacation somewhere nice where he could devour her body and keep her naked for as long as they wanted to be.
Henrik checked on everyone, helping Cillian do first aid on the women who needed it. Mostly they were all dehydrated and hungry—an easy fix. Even with those that needed intravenous fluids, they had the nurse helping out. After everyone had food and water, and a place to rest, he went back to Quinn’s side.
Their phones buzzed. He pulled his phone out.
Bossman: Cancelling your job tonight. Something came up. I’ll be in touch.
Henrik let out a breath of relief. He flashed the screen to Quinn.
“What do you think happened?”
He smirked. “My guess is, he’s on high alert because one of his facilities was attacked by a dragon. He doesn’t want us bringing in a new batch of kidnapped women. Not while things are running…” he met her gaze again, “hot.”
Quinn swallowed audibly. “At least,” her voice was a little breathless, “that’s one less thing to worry about…for tonight anyway.”
Henrik opened his mouth to say something to her, but the backdoor opened. He turned to look over his shoulder as Syrena strolled in followed by a herd of men.
Sensing Quinn’s uneasiness, he turned back to her.
“Who are they?”
Henrik squeezed her hand. “Not to worry. You’re safe here. And those ruffians are no one you need to worry about.” He shot her a wink and then got up to greet their new guests.
“Warren Conri, what the hell are you doing here?” Henrik greeted.
