One of the women came forward. “You shouldn’t be doing that. I’m a nurse, let me.”

Henrik had to get out of the way so Quinn could get what she needed. He stormed out of the room unable to look at her for another minute. Why didn’t she tell him it was her?

“Fuck.” Henrik paced the kitchen back and forth.

Cillian leaned in the doorway. “Easy man, who is this woman to you?”

“I don’t know. I’ve been wondering if she’s my fucking mate. I almost lost her out there and I didn’t even know it was her. She can’t be my mate if I didn’t know it was her, right? This is so fucking stupid. I’m pulling the plug. She almost died out there tonight, I can’t go with her to Stefano’s and pretend like she’s not banged up and bruised.”

“Claim her.” Cillian said it so casually, Henrik wanted to punch him. “She’ll turn into a dragon, right?”

“I don’t fucking know if that’s how it works for every human mate. I just know for sure it’s worked like that for three. And I’m not going to claim her because I don’t want her getting hurt. I don’t know if she’s my mate, I don’t have my bloody heartstone.”

Cillian scoffed, “You don’t need a rock to tell you what’s what. You’re not stupid. She had a damn good glamour on. She’s fooled other vampires.”

“Sounds like James had it made by a vampire witch,” Henrik replied. “According to the vampire trying to kill her.”

“James is quite resourceful,” Cillian replied. “As is your girl.”

Henrik shot his friend a glare. “Can we not?”

Cillian held up his hands as a sign of surrender. “She’s going to be fine. I didn’t sense anything drastically wrong with her aside from a shortage of blood. She’ll probably be good and bruised, but she’ll be all right.”

Henrik covered his face with his hands and let out another frustrated groan. “One of the vampires hit her a good twelve or fifteen feet into one of the shipping containers. She was moving, but it could all just be adrenaline. What if she’s really hurt? I need to get her to a hospital.”

“I’ll get a doctor here before you guys have to leave to go to Stefano’s.”

“She’s not going,” Henrik barked.

“Yes, she is,” Quinn yelled from the other room.

Henrik glared through the doorway.

Cillian chuckled. “If the two of you aren’t mates, I’ll be very surprised.”

After a few minutes, Henrik went back into the other room where she was lying on the couch and Letty was sitting in the chair next to her while they transferred blood. Henrik knelt next to her.

“I have to go with you, Henrik,” Quinn said. “Stefano will be expecting us both.”

Henrik’s gaze traveled over her body. Her curves were now more evident that they weren’t hidden in a glamour. She was in just a tank top, her coat and sweater on the floor next to her.

“Are you hurt?”

“I feel a little dinged up, but I don’t think anything is broken.”

He gnashed his teeth.

She swatted his shoulder. “Stop it. I’m fine.”

He huffed, “Why in the world did you do that?”

“You were tied down. There were vampires sticking spears in you like a pin cushion. Are you hurt?”

“I’m a dragon.”

She frowned. “That doesn’t answer my question.”

“I’m healing. I heal quickly. A benefit to being a dragon. Unlike the very human you.” He slipped his hand into hers and held it. “Why didn’t you tell me it was you?”
