He stopped mere inches from her, looking down into her beautiful face.
“Quinn…” Her name left his lips like a prayer.
She hesitantly reached up. “It’s me,” she murmured. “It was a glamour.”
Glamour? He knew that word. Images of Quinn as a male vampire filtered through his mind. A glamour.
Henrik dropped to his knees in front of her and rested his head against her belly. “It was a glamour?” His voice was raw with emotion and need.
Quinn’s hands settled on his head, gently caressing his hair in a soothing manner. “I’m right here. I never left.”
Henrik’s rigid body eased slowly until all the rage seeped out of it.
“Henrik?” she called to him.
“I’m here.”
He heard her sigh of relief.
“Brother?”
Levi’s voice drew his attention up. He blinked at his brother.
The other dragon.
“Fuck.” The seriousness of the situation was slowly coming into focus. “What the hell…”
Levi let out a long, steady breath. “Fucking hell, Rik. You scared the shit out of me. Thank the gods your mate was still alive.”
“What happened?” Henrik asked getting back to his feet.
Enzo tossed a wad of denim at Levi and then at Henrik. He caught it and it took him a moment to realize he was standing in the middle of an airport completely naked. He pulled the jeans on and crossed his arms over his bare chest.
“Grey?” Henrik asked.
“The plane crashed. I was more concerned about getting you back to Quinn than making sure he was dead.”
“I would just assume he’s alive,” Quinn said. “And he’s more powerful than ever.”
“I’ll go check the plane crash, but I think Quinn is right. Please get out of here before the police arrive. Between the plane crash and dragons duking it out on the runway, someone is bound to notice.”
“I’ll just be grateful if we don’t show up on the news,” Warren muttered. “Let’s go.”
Levi tossed the jeans back to Enzo and shifted. He zoomed up into the darkness and disappeared.
Henrik loaded up his mate and then himself into the tiny backseat of his Mustang.

By the timethey arrived at a third safe house, since the first one had been compromised, Henrik and the others were fully caught up on what happened with Grey. Henrik hadn’t been able to stop touching his mate.
His dragon was anxious, just beneath the surface. She was unclaimed, and if Grey was still alive, which he probably was, she wouldn’t be safe.
Henrik held Quinn’s hand while she hugged Syrena.
“I didn’t find the ring until a few moments ago,” Syrena said. “I was so relieved when I saw it wasn’t you.”
“You shouldn’t be relieved. She was an innocent woman doing Grey’s bidding. She didn’t want to hurt Henrik or anyone else. She was just doped up on Dragon Fire and infected with Dragon Breath. Now he can infect whoever he wants,” she said.
