“It’s not your fault,” Syrena said. “There were too many variables that he was controlling. There was no way for you to know.”

Quinn’s expression was grim.

James came down the stairs in a hurry. “Q?”

She turned, but Henrik wouldn’t release her fully. James wrapped her up in his arms, tugging a little.

Henrik growled.

“You’re going to have to learn to share,” James snapped.

Henrik snarled, snapping his teeth.

“James, if you had just gotten done killing me and didn’t want to let me go, I wouldn’t make you. Give him a free pass.”

James sighed. “I can’t believe I have to share you with a dragon.”

Henrik grumbled.

“Hey, James was my best friend first, Henrik,” Quinn chided.

Henrik pulled her back into his arms. “I know. And tomorrow you can hug him properly. Please just let me be an asshole right now. I’ll apologize tomorrow.”

James let out a loud sigh and raked his hands through his hair. “You’re not an asshole. I am. If I’d done what you’d did, I would be inconsolable. She’s all yours your today.”

Henrik kept her against his chest but adjust his stance and held out his hand. “Thank you, James.”

The two of them shook hands.

“You starting a harem, Quinn?” Warren teased.

She cocked an eyebrow. “Why? Are you applying?”

Warren chuckled.

Henrik growled.

She swatted his chest. “Relax, I only have eyes for you, mate.”

Her words soothed him.

“What do we do now?” Quinn asked.

Warren’s voice was filled with annoyance. “The vampires have all cleared out of the club. There’s nothing left. We checked the other facilities where women were being held. We managed to save another handful. We’re not sure what they did with the rest of them.”

“Took them with,” she said. “He has plans to create a bunch of femme fatales. No one is going to see them coming. What about my brother?”

Warren shook his head. “No sign of him. If he’s a ghoul like Grey said, he’ll stay that way until Grey releases him, turns him, or one of them dies.”

Quinn leaned back into Henrik’s touch and James’s jaw tightened with frustration.

Syrena sat down on the couch. “You said that Grey tried to infect you the same way.”

Quinn nodded. “Why didn’t it work?”

“The heartstone,” Henrik and Syrena said in unison.

“What about it?”
