“Syrena assures me not only are they cured but they’re inoculated. They shouldn’t be suspectable to Dragon’s Fire again,” Ash replied.
“That’s something, I guess,” Henrik said. “I’m going to Chicago to put an end to this Dragon Breath stuff, but I think I’m going to have to blend in with some humans for a while.”
Ash nodded thoughtfully. “All right, but keep me informed. You’re vulnerable out there by yourself.”
“We’ve got some friends in Chicago,” Henrik said. “I’ll be fine.”
“I think it’s time we brought the new clan together,” Gavin said quietly.
Ryker shook his head. “I still can’t believe the obsidian clan was human females. Isn’t there a story about how a bunch of dragon slayers killed them?”
Ash shrugged. “There’s a lot of stories. Marcus doesn’t seem to want to share what he does know.”
“Fucking prick,” Ryker growled. “We deserve to know the truth.”
“They all have to come around eventually,” said Ash.
Gavin sat down. “Or what? Revolution?”
“I would hate to fight a battle against other dragons when we’re already spreading ourselves thin with everything else going on, but this is a battle I’m willing to fight. Dragons don’t deserve to be wiped out because of the antiquated and stuck in tradition fuddy-duddies we’ve got in charge of our clans. Ask the young dragons who don’t have a mate how they feel about it. There are even older ones who don’t have mates, what of them? If the human mate is willing, then why does it matter?”
Ash grabbed a bottle of scotch from his liquor cabinet and poured five glasses. He could hear Finley coming down the stairs. He handed the glasses out and waited for Finley to appear.
“Is it safe?”
“Just friends left,” Ash said pulling her into him once he handed her the glass he’d poured for her.
“I hear you’re one of us now?” Gavin said.
Finley pulled her shirt down to reveal the bite marks on her shoulder. They’d healed well, but they were clearly there to stay. Ash’s had his own markings. He loved that she’d left a mark on him too.
“Bite marks and I got my own wings now, so I don’t have to be carried around like a virgin sacrifice.”
They all laughed.
“Pru will be happy to not be alone anymore,” Gavin said.
Ryker nodded. “My Yara too.”
Finley grinned. “We can have a girl dragons’ night out.”
The men all chuckled.
Ash lifted his drink. “To a new beginning.”
They all clinked their glasses and drank the smoky scotch.
* * *
A few days later,Ash woke Finley with soft kisses along her thighs.
“Don’t start something you’re not planning on finishing, mate.” Her voice was husky, still heavy with sleep, but he could scent her arousal all around him.
“Oh, trust me, I intend to finish what I’m starting. But first, I have a proposal to make.”
“We’re already mated. What’s left to propose?”
“I believe the human term is a honeymoon.” He looked up at her, letting his hand slide up her leg to cup her hot, wet core.
