“Promise me we’ll never bethatbad, okay?”
“You mean you don’t wanna be over the top lovey dovey in front of other people?”
He gives me a strange look. “I’d rather have a root canal.”
I shake my head, trying not to look as fond as I feel. “I promise.” And then just to rile him up a bit I add on, “but no promises when it’s just the two of us.”
Calvin rolls his eyes, punching my shoulder lightly. “Don’t you dare make me a giant softie.”
“I wouldn’t change a thing about you even if I wanted to. You’re perfect just the way you are.”
“Oh my god,” he groans, “I literally just said we would not be the sappy couple in public, Wilson! Knock that shit off.” I chuckle warmly, finding a seat at the table surrounded by our friends feeling an all-encompassing warmth embracing me all over. Under the table I lay my hand on Calvin’s thigh. I’m content and happy, a rightness filling my chest in a way I’m not sure I’ve experienced before. This is where I’m meant to be and I’m thankful Calvin’s decided to experience this at my side.
Epilogue
Calvin
“This food is fucking amazing,”I say, not caring that I have chipmunk cheeks at the moment filled with said food. It’s too good not to praise.
“What was that? Couldn’t hear you over all that see-food.”
“I’m not having seafood?”
“Maybe not to you but tomeit’s see-food because I can see it even though I don’t really want to.”
I roll my eyes, picking up my napkin from my lap and carefully dabbing at my mouth. “Better?”
“Much,” Wilson says with a wink. “We’re supposed to be acting just a little bit more proper. Thisisa fancy place after all.”
I take a smaller bite this time, chewing slowly just to prove that yes, I am very capable of being at a fancy restaurant. I run my hand over my purple tie, only barely stopping myself from fiddling with it or loosening it from around my throat. I can be prim and proper for a little while, especially since this datewasmy idea.
I look across the candle lit table at my date, ignoring the butterflies that flare up when I do. The top buttons of his shirt are open and the baby blue shade really compliments his skin tone. He looks amazing and I couldn’t be more proud that he’smydate.
Another bite of my steak has a barely there moan leaving my throat but the look Wilson gives me lets me know I wasn’t quite quiet enough. “Sorry,” I murmur. “It’s justthatgood.”
“This is the last time I take you somewhere fancy.”
Yes, I’m an adult with a full time job that goes to school full time and even makes payments on his own car. Yes, I stick my tongue out at him in the middle of dinner not caring if anyone sees. I havelayers.
“If I remember correctly this was my idea. I’m the one takingyouout.”
“Good,” Wilson says with a smirk. “Then I’ll order another bottle of wine to share and maybe dessert as well.”
I raise my brow. “You better not or you’ll be too full for the dessert I have planned.”
Wilson sits back in his chair, his eyes narrowing as he figures out exactly what I mean by dessert. He nods slowly. “Okay but can we please do that one thing with the ropes where you--”
“How is everything?”
We both look over at our waiter who’s had the mostperfecttiming so far tonight at always being here while we were in the middle of something or with our mouths full of food. I swear waiters just have that sixth sense.
“Everything is delicious,” I tell him with a kind smile.
“Wonderful. If you need anything more please let me know,” he says before walking over to another table.
“There’s a reason I asked you to come here tonight,” I confess softly, smiling at the way the candle light flickers between us, highlighting Wilson’s features beautifully. I’m not a romantic kind of omega, but right now I can appreciate the fun of romantic gestures once in a while.
“Okay? What’s up?”
