Dean appreciated the compliment but didn’t know how to respond. It wasn’t like Dean had done anything more than sharpen his natural talent. He’d been born powerful. That was why his old coven had wanted him.
“No thanks are necessary between us. Ever.” Lucifer was one person that Dean could call a true friend. “It will be good to see you and your mates more. I’ll keep a close eye on both.”
Lucifer nudged him. “We have mates.”
Dean couldn’t resist grinning as he was nearly giddy himself. “I still can’t believe it.”
“When they showed up, I thought that I had finally lost my mind.”
Dean laughed. “I can only imagine what a shock that must have been. To pop up in the middle of your office.”
“I was surprised.” Lucifer rolled his eyes. “My mates coming to me. A Christmas dream come true.”
“Gage is definitely one of a kind. Cary is the perfect little for you. They…they just fit, with you.”
“They are my perfect matches,” Lucifer agreed. “Just like I told you about your young lion.”
“I messed up,” Dean admitted. “I was so busy worrying about my coven coming after him that I ended up hurting him. I will be thankful every day that he forgave me.”
“Perfect match,” Lucifer commented.
“I get it now,” Dean confessed. There was no question that he had been living a half-life without Logan. “That doesn’t meanthat I’m any less worried, especially now that you showed me that book.”
“What are you going to do with it?” Lucifer questioned.
“I need to look through it. See if I can strip the magic away,” Dean replied. “I don’t want it to fall in the hands of someone who knows how to use it. It’s a miracle your boys weren’t more hurt.”
“Yeah, I’m going to have some nightmares about that,” Lucifer confessed.
“They’re safe now.” Dean offered comforting words. He meant them though. “I just don’t know about the rest of us. I need to talk to Axel. This isn’t over. Not until the coven leaders are taken care of.”
“Let’s enjoy tonight,” Axel said, joining them. “Family meeting in the morning.” He glanced at Lucifer. “That includes you and your boys.”
“I’m a firm believer that you can never have too much family,” Lucifer said with a grin.
Axel snorted. “That says a lot coming from you. I’ve heard stories about your family.”
Dean nodded. Some of Lucifer’s brothers were infamous. And humans thought demons were the ones that created chaos. Not in Dean’s experience. Angels…angels were who you needed to look out for. Angels had been around for so long that they’d grown bored. If an angel wasn’t causing mischief, then something was wrong.
“They…” Lucifer grunted. “Are mostly true.”
“I figured.” Axel nudged Dean’s shoulder. “Drake is putting the steaks on the grill. You might want to wake up your mate. It takes him a few minutes to get his bearings.”
“I’ll do that,” Dean replied.
“I’ll come with you and see if I can wrangle Gage and Noah. I might ask Noah if he wants to come home with us tonight. Give you and your mate some privacy.”
Winking, Dean approved of this idea. He’d promised Logan some pretty jewelry and Levi had brought Dean what he needed.
“Oh! You already have something planned,” Lucifer teased as they made their way down the deck steps and across the yard.
“That I do,” Dean told him.
Gage spotted them first and his attention was drawn away from Noah. Noah glanced over and beamed wide.
Dean wasn’t wrong. He could already tell that the two feline shifters were going to be hard to separate. Not that Dean wanted to do that to them. With his taking Cary as an apprentice, they would be together nearly daily.
“It’s almost time for dinner.” Lucifer knelt beside his shifter mate.
