Byron nodded. “I thought you’d like a pet so I asked Caleb to contact his friend at the shelter. He wanted to get you the little black kitten. He said that black cats and dogs were the hardest to find good homes for. But when he got to the shelter the black kitten had become close to the little white one. They cried when they were separated. He said he couldn’t stand it. So…we got two kittens.”
Mitch squealed then jumped into Byron’s arms. “You got us kittens! Baby kittens!” He peppered his Daddy’s face with kisses.
“Here.” Mac stood and held out two little bitty kittens. “Why don’t you hold them?”
He jumped down grinning so big. His cheeks were starting to hurt with how happy he was. He had his very own babies!
Mitch held out his arms and Mac gently placed his two new babies in his arms. He immediately began to coo to them, so they knew how happy he was to see them. He plopped down on the couch giving all his attention to the kittens.
“What are you doing here?” Byron asked Mac.
“Exactly what I told you. I saw Mitch’s father hanging around.”
Mitch cuddled the kittens to his chest as he watched the two big men. Both were muscular but no one could compare to his Daddy. He did think that Byron was perfect. Well, perfect for him anyway.
“To have seen Mitch’s father you had to be hanging around as well.”
“Okay. Guilty. I wanted to talk to Mitch. In…” He looked at his watch. “Ten minutes we will have some breaking news that is about to rock this entire city.”
“You stole the files and gave them to the press?” Byron questioned.
“Of course, I did. I promised the boy that I wouldn’t kill his father. This was how I decided to make him pay. Make them all pay. I released everything. He and his entire firm will no longer have any secrets. And the men that they’ve been protecting won’t be protected any longer.”
Byron’s gaze went to him. Mitch knew what Byron was thinking. This could affect everything he’s worked for.
“The boy is in the clear. He never had anything to do with dealings with the true criminals. In fact, from what I could find he was the only one in the entire firm that did any good work.”
That made Mitch proud. Being recognized for trying. For wanting to help people.
“Thank you.” Byron nodded to Mac.
“No problem. That’s what friends do.”
“Friends?” Mitch piped up.
“Yes.” Mac clapped his hands then rubbed them together. “I decided we were all going to be friends. I even joined that club of yours.”
Mitch nodded. “We can be friends. But that means you have to stop stalking us. Friends don’t stalk friends.”
Mac nodded. “I can try. I just like to know that my people are safe and taken care of.”
“Then pick up the phone,” Byron told him. “Call us.”
“Okay.”
This was so weird. Mac was strange. But Mitch liked him.
“And we want to meet the boy that finally tames you.” He also liked teasing the big man.
“Tames me?” Mac sounded disgusted. “I will never be tamed.”
“You go on believing that,” Byron said with a laugh. “But these boys tend to turn everything upside down in our world.”
Mitch nodded. “We really do. You might think that you’ll be in charge, but I’d bet anything that in no time, you’ll be wrapped around his finger.”
Byron laughed. “Sooner than you think.”
“Whatever.” Mac literally stomped his foot.
