“Okay,” Avery agreed.

“Get your toys picked up,” Jace told him.

Avery didn’t argue, just started to put the half-dozen cars back in the container. Jace put it back on the shelf before helping his boy up off the carpet. He took Avery’s hand, guiding him over to the chair in the corner.

“Wait here for me,” Jace said. He set the sippy cup of milk on the small table and clicked on the lamp, which bathed the area in a softer light before going to the door and turning off the brighter overhead light. He stopped by the bookcase and grabbed the front book.Trains.That would be perfect for his boy.

Avery was yawning by the time that Jace was back at the chair. He sat, then patted his lap.

“Climb up, baby boy. Let Daddy snuggle with you.”

Biting his lip, Avery sat across Jace’s knee. He held himself rigid and looked uncomfortable. Jace adjusted Avery so that his boy was lying with his head against his chest. When Avery sighed with contentment, Jace had to smile at his boy. He handed Avery his sippy cup then gave him a gentle kiss on the lips. He wasn’t trying to start anything sexual but having his boy in his lap had his body coming alive.

He started to read as Avery brought the sippy cup to his lips.

As Jace read the last page of the book, Avery’s eyelids finally closed without opening back up. Jace sat still, just holding Avery in his arms. He gazed down and closed his own eyes as he soaked up the events from a perfect night.

When Avery shifted against him, Jace knew he needed to get the boy settled for the night.

“Hey, baby boy,” Jace said. “Let’s get you into bed.”

“Mmm-huh.”

Jace chuckled. He moved Avery, forcing the boy to sit up. Jace kept hold of Avery as he shuffled to the day bed. Pulling back the comforter, he helped Avery slide inside. Covering his boy up, he kissed the side of Avery’s neck. “Sleep tight.”

“Thank you, Daddy,” Avery mumbled.

Jace beamed at the boy who already was sleeping soundly. If tears gathered in his eyes, no one needed to know.

CHAPTER FIVE

JACE

“Avery, sweetie, it’s time to wake up.”

“Huh?” Avery leaned back into the strong hand rubbing his back. He blinked open his eyes and, facing a colorful wall, realized he wasn’t in his own bed. And Jace was there with him. Avery quickly removed the thumb from his mouth. He’d found himself returning to that habit more and more. He groaned and buried his face in his pillow. There was no way that Jace hadn’t seen him sucking his thumb.

Jace’s warm chuckled floated down his neck. “Roll over and let me see those beautiful blue eyes of yours.”

“Nuh-uh,” he mumbled into the pillow.

“What’s that? I can’t understand you?” Jace ran his hand down Avery’s back before patting him on the ass. “Come on, baby boy.”

Fine.He got the feeling that Jace wasn’t going to leave, Hell, heknewit. Avery huffed but flopped onto his back. He peered up at Jace and swallowed hard. Wow, Jace looked fucking yummy in the morning. He hadn’t shaved, so there was a distinct amount of stubble. Avery wanted Jace to rub that stubble all over his body. He flushed when he realized that his morning wood was visible to Jace.

“Good morning,” Jace said before leaning forward to press his lips against Avery’s.

Avery moaned and pushed up while opening his mouth to Jace as Jace licked at the seam of his lips. Avery should really pull back—he hadn’t brushed his teeth yet, but as Jace deepened the kiss, he decided he didn’t care if Jace didn’t.

He grasped at Jace’s strong shoulders and tried to pull him down. Instead, Jace gentled the kiss before moving back.

“Now that’s the way you should be woken up every day,” Jace told him.

Avery couldn’t agree more. He nodded with enthusiasm.

“Good boy. Now, we need to get up and have breakfast. I bet you’re hungry after such a good night’s sleep.” Jace patted Avery’s hard cock—he fuckingpattedit.

“Ugh.” Avery shook his head. Breakfast? He was hungry, but he was also really comfy, warm, and safe in his bed. He loved his bed.
