Me: Anyway. I thought that we could take Piper to see Disney On Ice. I’ve got three tickets for the 3 pm show.
Me: Hopefully, that doesn’t screw anything up. Shit. Maybe I can sell these and get three for another time.
Yep. I’ve gone crazy. I have. God, I hope I’m not waking her up with this stupidness. Maybe she turned her notifications off last night. Either that or, perhaps, I’ll get lucky, and she’s a really happy morning person and will forgive me for being nuts.
The text alert sounds on my phone. Instead of Rachel’s name, it’s the Defcon group chat.
Defcon1 (Gunner): Yo, Playboy. How’s it hanging? Are you doing okay? I haven’t heard from you since after that car accident. How're the ladies?
Me: It’s hanging just fine, weirdo. Rachel and Piper are both good. I am waiting for them to wake up. I am hoping to take them to Disney on Ice today.
The minute I hit send on my message, I know I’m going to regret it. I should have never mentioned my plans for today.
Defcon1 (Sunny): Awww snap. Disney on Ice. Better take some Benadryl big guy!
Defcon1 (Louis): Go head, boy! That is blowjob worthy right there. They sell chocolate covered pineapples at the show. Make sure you grab a few.
Defcon1 (Sunny): Eww. You boys are gross.
Me: Good call on the pineapple ;)
Defcon1 (Sunny): That’s so wrong. I hope you get the shits from too much pineapple.
Me: Hush. I’ve still got to tell her that I’ve got reserve duty for the next two weeks. Not sure how that’s going to go over.
Defcon1 (Gunner): You still haven’t told her? Jesus, you’re a dumbass.
The phone rings in my hand, cutting off any further chatter with the crew as Rachel’s name pops up.
“Hi. I hope I didn’t wake you up. Are you ready to kill me?” I say all at once.
“Breathe, dorkface. Disney on Ice is very sweet of you. She’ll love it. No, we don’t have plans for today, and 3 pm will not interfere with naptime.”
Blowing out a relieved breath, I thank god I dodged that bullet. “Oh. Great. We could grab something to eat before if you want to.”
“Uhm. Sure. You should get here a little bit early, and we can tell Piper where we’re going, together.” Rachel offers.
“Really? Yeah. I...that, yes. I’ll pick you both up around ten. That should give us time to eat and make it to the show.”
“Looking forward to it.”
“Great. I should go catch up on some errands. I’ll see you soon?”
“We’ll be here.”
Ending the call, I quickly search for the closest Disney store and grab my car keys.

One trip to the Disney store, a princess dress, two tiaras, and two bunches of flowers later, I pull up to Rachel’s house ten minutes early.
With a bag in one hand and flowers in the other, I knock on the door and wait. I hear the echo of little feet approaching and Rachel’s bigger footsteps.
“Miss Piper, don’t you open that door without Mommy!” I can hear Rachel warn.
“Is it Logan?” Piper asks as Rachel pulls open the door, her eyes on Piper, who is bouncing excitedly.
“Hey, Princess Piper!” I bend down and greet her. “These are for you, pretty lady.” I hand her the tiny bouquet of daisies then kiss the back of her other hand.
