She sits up and searches my face. I try to read her expression, but all I see is a mixture of emotions ranging from excitement to fear. “What is it?” I ask her when she doesn’t answer me fast enough.

She reaches for my hand and picks it up, placing it on her belly. I press my palm there as she starts to tell me, “I went to the doctor this morning. You’re going to be a daddy.”

“What? You’re pregnant? We’re pregnant?” I ask her excitedly.

She nods as a tear rolls down her face. She looks relieved. “I guess you’re excited.”

I cup her face with my hands. “Oh baby, I didn’t think I could be any happier, but you proved me wrong. I love you, Sassy.”

She pulls from my hold and stands up, holding her hand out. I reach for her without hesitation, and she pulls me to stand up. “Now let’s go home and celebrate.”

I pull her up into my arms and stride down the porch to my truck. We can come get hers later. I don’t want to be away fromher. It’s only when I have her settled in the truck that I look at her and see the happiness on her face. “Who would have thought that when I won that auction, all my dreams would come true?”

She leans in and kisses me until we’re both breathless. “Me too, Cole. Me too.”
