The next day arrived, and I had a full slate of things to do for both businesses. I wanted to start my day at Oxford first, so I could get it out of the way. The sooner I had to see Porsha, the better so I could move on with my day.

I approached the entrance to the Oxford office to see Porsha not able to get inside. I watched her trying to input her access card in, but it wasn’t working. She turned around and saw me and rolled her eyes.

“Can’t get in, huh?”

“What gave that away?”

I didn’t even reply as I took mine out and swiped it on the pad. I noticed mine wasn’t working either. “Great.”

“So, neither one works.”

“I guess since we’re the new employees, our cards probably haven’t been authorized yet. I’ll see if Jenni can buzz us in.”

Porsha leaned on the wall and waited for me to contact the receptionist. I disconnected the call and glanced at her.

“She’s not answering.”

“Are you kidding me? Shouldn’t she be at the desk?”

“Technically, the office is not open yet. She probably went to the restroom.”

“She needs to hurry up.”

“Why? You don’t want to be around me? Deal with it.”

“Obviously, you don’t want to be around me, especially after the talk we had.”

“We were airing out our feelings; there’s nothing wrong with that.”

“Is it?”

“You told me how you felt, so I can’t be mad about that. I just wished you would had talked to me then and told me how you felt.”

“I probably should have. I can’t change that now, can I?”

“Things would had been a lot simpler if you did, though.”

“But I do need to know if there’s going to be an issue working together because if it is, I can quit.”

“We already discussed this, Porsha. We’ll be fine. This is your job, so I’m not going to stand in the way of it.”

“But if it’s difficult—”

“Porsha, stop. I said it won’t. Just leave it at that.”

Porsha sighed as Jenni, the receptionist, came to open the door. We thanked her while walking inside.

“Will you be able to meet at 10 for a consultation for the book you’re editing? Cierra mentioned we have to start prepping for publicity, so you’ll need to be there as well.”

She nodded. “Sure. I haven’t really started on the editing yet.”

“That’s fine. We just need to put our heads together with how we want the press to be for the book. No worries.”

I watched, as she went down the hall to her office. I went into mine, hoping this day could end sooner than expected.

Once I was able to look through some figures for the company, I had to go to the meeting, which didn’t last long since Cierra had an emergency with another author regarding their story, so Porsha and I decided to work late to get some of the stuff done. Since this story was delayed, we had to do everything in our power to get this story to the public.

The workday had winded down for the majority of the employees, but Porsha and I were still in our offices. After an hour of working, I was hungry and needed to take a break. I was going to eat alone but, since it was just Porsha and I still in the building, I didn’t want for her to be by herself, so I ordered dinner for the two of us. Hell, I was still looking out for her, and she didn’t even realize it.
