I sighed. Diana was devastated when I announced that Porsha left me. She saw the pain and hurt I was in and even hated the transformation I had to being an asshole to women. It’s not something I was proud of, but I didn’t want to get into something and know it was not going to end well. I figured I’d do the hurting first before anything else occurred.

“That wasn’t my thoughts when I bought Oxford. It was a lucrative business move, nothing more.”

“Really? A publishing company?” Jasper asked.

“Do your research, bro. Publishing houses make good money, especially when the right book comes along. It’ll be a gold mine.”

“And you’re sure it doesn’t have anything to do with Porsha?” my dad asked.

I stared at him, wondering if part of it really was. Although it had crossed my mind to purchase it because Porsha was an employee, it mainly wasn’t about her. It really was because I wanted to move in a new direction with my business ventures.

“It’s not, Dad. Like I told Porsha, she’s just an employee to me, nothing more.”

“Are you trying to convince us or yourself because your facial expression says otherwise?” my mom said.

I looked down at the counter, wishing people would stop talking about Porsha. She left me 10 years ago, so everyone should move on from it. Clearly, she didn’t want a relationship, so there’s no point in dredging up past wounds.

“I think I’m going to go. I have a lot of stuff I need to do for Oxford.”

“You just got here. At least stay for dinner,” my mom said.

I shook my head. “I just came by to show my face, so, I did; now, I’m leaving.”

Before anyone else could say anything, I walked to the door. I didn’t feel like being social, so I was going to end the night. Once I said my goodbyes to everyone, I headed out, but I wasn’t going home. I just needed to clear my head about everything that had happened. Porsha done a lot to mess me up emotionally, but she wasn’t going to mess up my business. I had to think long and hard if buying Oxford really was the best decision for me, for myself and my business.

CHAPTER 6

Porsha

A

fter that awkward first day at work, I decided I needed a drink. I called Chandra, remembering we were supposed to meet up later, but she said she was at her parents and asked if I wanted to join them, but I declined. I did not want a chance to see Remy, so I decided to go to Teddy’s. I didn’t have a problem drinking alone.

I headed straight to the bar and told the bartender what I wanted. I didn’t want to waste any time being undecided. I needed a drink immediately. I sat down, staring at the liquor bottles ahead of me as I heard a familiar voice speaking. A deep, sexy voice.

“I see you’re drinking alone.”

I turned to my right to see Remy staring at me. I sighed as I was about to get up.

“Don’t leave on my account. In fact, I’ll go.”

“Don’t. We can both be civil in a public place together.”

“Of course.”

I sat back down as I continued to stare ahead. Remy received his drink, which was a Scotch, neat. I sat back and gave a tiny smile.

“I see you haven’t changed your drink choices.”

“Why would I?”

“I know you don’t want to make small talk.”

“So, why are you taking to me, then?”

That was a low blow as I glanced at him. “You don’t have to be nasty.”

“What do you expect, Porsha? To have my arms outstretched to you for a hug? To be all happy that I’ll be seeing you more? Fuck no. You left a huge void when you walked out on me, and you have the audacity to act like nothing’s wrong when you never explained what the fuck happened.”
