CHAPTER 4
Porsha
I
couldn’t believe the nerve of him! He definitely had changed since we were together. He was rude, arrogant, and fucking cocky. He was a true asshole.
Then, why the hell is his new attitude turning me on?
I shook the thought out of my head as I walked into my office. I had my first assignment from Cierra, which was a re-edit for a novella. The book was supposed to been released over a month ago but was delayed due to the acquisition. I was pumped for this assignment, so I was eager to read a new story for an emerging author.
I was about to open the file when there was a knock at the door. I told them to come in when Chandra popped her head inside.
“Hey, working girl. I brought some stuff for you for your first assignment.”
“Wow! Thank you so much, bestie,” I said while walking to her. I grabbed the cup holders carrying two cups of coffee and a bakery bag before placing them on the desk. “It better be a vanilla latte.”
“You know it is, girl. I know my bestie. But it’s crazy that your favorite coffee is also my brother’s favorite.”
“Yeah, go figure,” I mumbled. I looked at the bag, forgetting about Remy. “Is that a cheese danish?”
“Of course. I have to admit, I didn’t think you would be getting your own office,” she said while looking around.
“I didn’t either, but the company shocked me. In more ways than one.”
“But, how do you like it? Is it hustle and bustle on your first day?”
“Something like that. It was definitely hectic.”
“I’m sensing something is wrong.”
“Well, the company was bought out by another company today. Guess whose company that bought it out.”
“I’m lost, Porsha.”
“Did you know your brother was acquiring this company?”
Chandra definitely had the deer in headlights look as she stared at me. “What the fu—,”
“Porsha, I…”
We looked to the door to see Remy walking in. He glanced at Chandra as she came over to him.
“You bought Porsha’s new place of employment?!”
“Hello to you too, sis. But lower your tone, people can hear you,” Remy said while closing the door. He glanced at his sister and shook his head. “Before you even start lecturing me, I’m still pissed at you for not telling me you’re still friends with her.”
“Hello, I’m in the room,” I spoke.
Remy ignored me as he continued talking to Chandra. “You blindsided me for years about not knowing where Porsha was.”
“Why bring it up? I thought we’d moved past that. Besides, it’s not like you would have talked to her.”
“Still in the room, y’all,” I mentioned.
“Because it’s bringing back those moments since she’s standing here right now.”
“Let’s not change the subject. Why did you never tell me about Oxford? I know you said you were thinking about taking ownership of some company, but I didn’t think it was here.”
