“And miss your surprised face. Not a chance.”
“Anyway, how was your day?”
“It was good. In fact, I spoke to Remy today.”
I shot her an evil glance, as Chandra sighed. “Why are you bringing him up?”
“Uh, I don’t know, maybe because he’s my half-brother and I do have occasional conversations with him.”
I sighed as I leaned back in my seat. Sometimes, I hated that my bestie was also my ex’s sister. That’s how I met Remy one day when visiting Chandra at her parents’ when she returned home from college. He was there visiting from Miami, where he originally stayed with his mother. His father had a previous relationship with Remy’s mother before marrying Chandra’s mom.
Just the way he looked at me when he first laid eyes on me made me wonder so much about him. He was sexy, yet mysterious, which intrigued me from the start. He was the epitome of fine, with his dark, wavy hair that I used to love seeing fall over his brown eyes, his rich bronze skin that I loved to touch, and his smile which showed off his dimples. Just thinking about him made my body squirm a bit, which I quickly hid as I straightened myself in my seat.
“You’re thinking about him, aren’t you?”
“No.”
“Yes, you are. Why don’t you just admit that you still think about him?”
“I don’t.”
“Stop lying to yourself. Honestly, I don’t even know why you both broke up.”
“He never told you?”
“Why would he talk to me about you? Remember, you still supposed to be vanished without a trace.”
“I’m surprised he hasn’t asked where I’ve been.”
“Because I haven’t told him we still talk. You don’t really come up in our conversations.”
I was a bit disappointed in hearing that, but what did I expect? I did leave him without even saying goodbye. “He doesn’t even talk about me?”
“Why would he? He’s too busy with his businesses to be concerned about a relationship. He is around someone when it’s convenient for him.”
“I know he’s concerned about his businesses. He has one of the top tech firms in the city. Hell, possibly in the world.”
“He worked hard for those ventures; you know that, Porsha.”
“I’m not saying I’m not proud of him because I am, it’s just…”
“You felt his businesses were more important than you.”
I nodded as I looked ahead at the bar. Maybe this celebration event wasn’t such a good idea.
After having two drinks and talking with Chandra for a bit, I decided to call it a night. I needed to get home to prepare myself for my new job.
Once I got home, I showered, changed into my comfy sleepwear, and relaxed in bed. The conversation I had with Chandra about Remy kept creeping into my mind as I looked at the wall, wondering why I was steadily thinking about him.
I turned off the lamp, hoping I could get some sleep. I didn’t need to be sleep-deprived on my first day.

I was finally able to go to sleep as I woke up refreshed and renewed. I had to be at Oxford at 8 a.m., so I quickly got ready to beat the traffic before it got worse. I arrived in the parking garage 30 minutes later, with 15 minutes to spare. I was too eager to start, so I got out and headed inside. I was greeted by the receptionist, Helen, who took me to Cierra’s office. She knocked on the door as Cierra mentioned to come in.
We slowly walked in to see Cierra on the phone. She had a blank expression on her pecan face as she glanced up. Her expression completely switched to fear as she gave a heavily sigh.
“Okay, I will let everyone know. Thank you.” She sat the receiver in its cradle to stare at us. “Um, Helen, could you excuse us, please? I would need to speak to Porsha privately.”
