Deja gave him a quizzical look as the door to the elevator closed.
“I’m sorry, do you also work for the Farrow Corporation?”
Stephen gave her a slight smirk as a soft ding indicating their floor. “Yes, I sign your paycheck,” he said in a stern tone before getting off the elevator and walking towards his office without saying another word.
“Oh,” Deja replied to the back of the intimidating figure, inwardly steeling herself.
Stephen got off the elevator and tried to keep his anger in check.
Deja Rose.
He knew her last name but couldn’t remember her first name. He recognized her the moment she walked into the building, just like he did two nights ago at the club. That was the woman who changed the trajectory of his life and now she strolled in here like she didn’t recognize him. He paused as he stepped into his office.
What the fuck is wrong with you?He chastised himself.
He hated her, but on the elevator, it took everything in him to resist the urge to press his nose against her neck and inhale. The light floral scent she wore caused his dick to twitch. He hated that she was having that effect on him. Anger filled his lungs, almost threatening to choke him.
He slammed the door shut before calling HR. Stephen wanted to make sure that she would be working with him directly and he was going to make sure she remembered him. He was going to enjoy making her life miserable before she quits or gets fired. Taking deep breaths as he sat, he tried unsuccessfully to tamp down his temper, when there was a knock at his door before it opened. He knew it was Caleb. He was the only one that didn’t wait for an answer before walking in.
“I have to remember to have the maintenance department put a fucking lock on that door.”
“Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed,” Caleb said with a smile as he walked over to the sideboard and poured himself a cup of coffee. “Hey, did you know that one of the ladies from the club is going to be working with our company? I think she’s starting today.” He sat in front of him with his coffee. Caleb shook his head and blew out a breath. “Those two ladies were beautiful. That night didn’t turn out like I thought, but after spending the entire weekend with her, I’m now questioning my bachelorhood.” Caleb smiled as he sipped the hot beverage.
Stephen narrowed his eyes at him. “You know we have rules against fucking our employees,” he growled as he leaned into him.
Caleb let out a hearty laugh. “I know what our rules are, but Olivia doesn’t work here.”
Stephen wasn’t sure why he was relieved that he wasn’t talking about Deja, but he was. “Why are you here? I thought you had a meeting this morning in our Jersey office?”
“That meeting was rescheduled. I sent you an email.”
“I haven’t had a chance to check my emails yet.” Stephen stood and made himself a cup of coffee. “Now that you are here, we can go over the talking points for our meeting this afternoon.” Stephen sat back at his desk. He and Caleb began to work on their presentation for their meeting.
As Deja made her way through the bustling office, the sounds of small chatter and phone calls filled her air, accompanied by the faint aroma of coffee and pastries. She passed cubicles and conference rooms, trying to familiarize herself with the environment she would soon navigate every day.
“Hey, Deja!” a friendly voice called out, snapping her out of her thoughts. She turned to find a colleague waving at her from across the room. “Come on over; there’s an extra seat!”
She smiled, remembering the bubbly young lady with long blonde hair, and striking blue eyes from orientation. “Mary, right?”
“Yes, I’m Mary Rodgers. They hired me as a personal assistant to one of the vice presidents. I’m so nervous.”
“It’s going to be fine. I know you will do great.” Deja said with a smile.
“Thanks, I know you will do great too.”
“Thanks,” Deja replied, grateful for the warm welcome as she settled into her new workspace. A lingering feeling of unease tugged at the edges of her mind, but she pushed it aside, determined to succeed and make a good impression.
“Alright, everyone, let's get started. The older woman from HR said. “Today there will be onboarding for all new employees. You’ll get a chance to see your workspace and familiarize yourself with the office. Tomorrow you will start work. They spent the entire day signing forms and learning all the ends and outs of the company. Deja found out that she would be working directly with Stephen Farrow, the CEO.
Shit, that was the man from the elevator.
The person from HR showed them all around the company and dropped them off at the department they would work with. She introduced Deja to Stephen Farrow’s secretary. Lori McNeil was a young woman with red hair and bright green eyes. It was clear to Deja that she loved her job and her boss.
Lora showed Deja around their department and showed her where her office was.
“I’ve already ordered the supplies I think you need, but if you need anything else, let me know and I will order it for you,” Lora smiled as she walked towards the door. She stopped and turned to face Deja again. “Oh, I almost forgot, Stephen left some files on your desk. He would like you to review them before tomorrow.”
“Thanks Lora.” Deja paused. “Hey, how is Mr. Farrow to work for?” Deja asked as she sat at her desk.
