Well, that wasn’t what they’d expected.

Chapter Twelve

Exa

––––––––

Crying, Rain flungherself into her husband’s arms.

“I’ve got you,” Dean told her as he held her close. “It’s going to be okay, love. Everything is going to be okay. I’ll make sure of it. The team will make sure of it.”

Rain’s shoulders shook as she sobbed against his chest. With tears in her eyes too, Oni turned and headed toward the kitchen, probably finding it hard to watch her friend cry.

“She’s probably been holding that in for days,” Seven whispered. “I feel so bad for her.”

Skye stepped forward. Wrapping her arms around her sister, Skye rested her chin on her sister’s shoulder. Exa looked over at Arson. Arson gave her a sad smile. Her team understood the importance of sisterhood. Rain’s sister was in danger. They hurt for her. They raged with her. And they were willing to fight for her. Exa blinked back tears.

“We’ll bring her home,” Arson whispered to the Timeless team. “And I’ll convince Nova to allow the Killer Crew to help. Consider it done,” Arson told her.

Exa’s gaze drifted from Skye to Seven, then to Arson. She’d be lost without her sisterhood. Her gaze returned to Dean and Rain, who were still embracing. Their love for each other was evident in how they clung to each other. She was his lifeline, and he was hers. Exa wanted her sisterhood, and she also wanted that kind of love. She wanted it so bad she was willing to fight for it. First, she had to fight a battle that was long overdue.

Facing her team, she told them, “It’s time for us to stop being nosey and get to work. The clock is ticking on the judge situation.”

“The clock is ticking on all of our situations,” Skye groaned. “I’m starting to feel the pressure.”

Exa patted the young woman’s shoulder. “After you get the duffle bags ready, take the rest of the day off and relax.”

Skye nodded. “I may go for a ride on my motorcycle. I haven’t taken it out since Chopper painted it for me.”

“Can I go?” Seven asked.

“Yup. Let’s get to work, and we’ll hit the road later.”

“Just stay on the blocks that we have cameras on,” Exa reminded them.

“Gotcha,” they both said as they strode off to take care of their tasks.
