“Here’s the plan. Stefan and Caspari will head into the forest to lay down the explosives. You two soldiers will follow to provide cover if they need it. You two,” Enzo said to the other soldiers. “Will guard that side of the road. Me, Orazio, and Eve will guard...”

Before he could get the next word out, a loud explosion occurred, causing the ground to shake.

Chapter Twenty-Four

What the hell!

Enzo grabbed Eve and pulled her close, hunching over her to protect her. His body rocked. He leaned against the car, pressing Eve against it to keep them from falling. Even the car shook. But the windows didn’t shatter.

“What the fuck?” Terzo yelled.

Enzo raised his head and stared around him. Thankfully, the explosion wasn’t large enough to fuck shit up. As the others talked, Enzo stared down at Eve. He lifted her chin.

“Are you okay?”

She nodded. “I think they blew up the dealership. What else could it be?”

“She’s right,” Stefan agreed. “Adduci must’ve reneged on the deal. After the visit you paid him and what happened earlier, maybe Adduci pulled out of the agreement. Since he won’t continue working for them, the Bianchis are getting rid of another loose end.”

“So, the car that left may have been the don leaving,” Enzo mused. “And the car that arrived could’ve been their bomb team. And this entire time, the goons left behind have probably been torturing Roku Adduci and robbing him. I don’t feel bad for him. If you get in bed with rats, you get bit.”

Eve moved. Enzo stared down to find her rubbing her ear.

“Ears ringing?” Enzo asked. His were also ringing.

“A little,” she replied.

“Get back in the car.”

“I’m good,” she told him.
