“I won’t ask again.”
“Okay!” she yelled. “I’ll eat the damn food.”
“Good. Now, can I get up, or are you going to keep sitting on my lap all day?”
She jumped up. “Don’t act like I wanted to sit there.”
“Hmmm.”
“I didn’t,” she shouted, glaring down at him.
“Hmmm.” The blush in her cheeks was cute.
“You made me sit there.”
“Hmmm,” he said again as he stood and straightened his shirt on his frame.
“Stop with the, hmmmm.” As she sat back down in his chair, her gaze rolled over him. Her eyes paused on the tent in his pants. Then she muttered, “It seems like you enjoyed having me in your lap.”
“Excuse me?”
“Nothing.” She stared down at her plate.
With her gaze no longer on him, he rearranged himself to make his bulge less noticeable. She froze with the glass of water halfway to her mouth when he stepped closer to her.
He leaned down and whispered in her ear, “I enjoyed eating breakfast with you today, Eve. Let’s do this every morning.”
Ignoring him, she took a sip from the glass he’d already drank out of. He didn’t miss the way her hands shook as she gulped down half the water. It would seem his little witness was just as affected by him as he was by her. That was good to know. Enzo left the room with a smile on his face. Having Eve around was going to be fun.
Thank you for sending her to me, grandfather. I promise to keep her safe.
When he made it to the foyer, he told Stefan, “Have the guards take Eve to the kitchen to heat up her lunch at lunchtime. Maria is going to prepare it before she leaves.”
“You’re giving the witness free reign of the mansion?”
“I’m just allowing her to eat in the kitchen.”
“Hmmm,” Stefan said.
Ignoring him, Enzo left his home with a smile on his face.
