Forcing myself to turn my back on him, I close my eyes and lift my hands in the air, letting the music soak through me and distract me from the way he causes my body to tingle.
I listen to the bass and let it pull me and push me until it’s all I’m thinking about. The music can take me. It’s all I need.
But that’s when I feel his hands on me.
CHAPTER TWO
Rufino
She’s been watching me all night like a fox with its eyes on its prey.
But I am nobody’s prey. So, I stare back at her like a wolf, daring her to come closer.
I’m here to relax and have a few drinks. But she’s distracting me. Not that I mind it. She’s fucking gorgeous.
“Who is that?” I lean towards my acquaintance. He’s someone I hang out with sometimes, but I can’t call him a friend - I don’t have friends. I prefer it that way. Friends are a risk I don’t enjoy taking. Having friends requires trusting people and I don’t trust anyone.
“That’s Verity A’Vara. Fucking hot, but if you know what’s good for you, don’t even glance in her direction. She’s nothing but trouble. She’s literally hellfire.” He shakes his head and rolls his shoulders back, shuddering at the thought of dealing with her.
I chuckle. She can’t bethatbad. She’s just a girl.
“A’Vara.” I mutter to myself. I know exactly who her father is. I did not know his daughter was that much of a minx, though. She stands out as the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen.
Her bold attitude and that sassy smirk she keeps throwing in my direction only make me more curious about her.
Her wild blond hair hangs loose around her shoulders. Even from across the bar, I can see how blue her eyes are, complimented by the blue of her short, sexy dress.
She moves with confidence and sex appeal.
Another girl steps close to her and I can see Verity dislikes her. They exchange words and the tension between them explodes.
“Wooha.” I chuckle when Verity flies forward and slams her fist into the other girl’s face. She drops like a rock, landing hard on her ass.
“Told you.Hellfire.” My acquaintance pulls his mouth tight. “Fucking hellfire.”
I watch, enthralled when Verity doesn’t leave it at one punch but takes another swing at the girl. Whatever she said clearly pissed her off.
A bartender leaps over the bar and lifts Verity up in the air, but one look from her and he lets go, not willing to take her on himself. This girl has power, and she isn’t afraid to use it.
In no time at all, her challenger is being carried out of the club and when Verity looks in my direction again, I’m struggling to hide the smile on my face.
I’m starting to like this girl.
Hellfire indeed.
My heart flick-flacks in my chest when starts walking towards me - she has something on her mind, but I have no idea what her intensions are.
Fuck, she is gorgeous. The closer she gets to me, the more obvious her beauty becomes. And that devilish shine in her eyes is sending an intense thrill through my body. I enjoy playing with fire, I always have.
She grabs my collar and pulls me down. I think she’s going to punch me.
But out of nowhere, she kisses me.
For a second, I am stunned and frozen in place.
But very quickly, the electric current running between us sparks me back to life and I reach out to touch her, dragging her closer, running my hands over her body and the curve of her back.
My skin is on fire wherever my body is touching hers.
