Page 43 of Something Borrowed

She looks like an angel.

Those dark red lips and glittering blue eyes, the white dress hugging her waist and tight over her hips. My heart is thrumming a steady beat of excitement at the thought of owning her.

She is about to belong to me in such a meaningful way that she can never leave me.

She will be mine.

Even her father won’t have a right to send her away.

No one will have a right to touch my wife.

My wife.

Not a person in the world will question our love for each other.

“Do you, Rufino Vece, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?”

“I do.” My stomach tightens with anticipation.

“Do you, Verity A’Vara, take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband?”

She grins, her eyes shining up at me. “I do.” She says.

“Well, then there is nothing else to do but this - I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss your bride.”

Without wasting a second I step forward, wrap my arms around her and dip her backwards - sealing our words with a passionate kiss.

If the priest wasn’t watching us, I would have bent her over the wooden benches and fucked her right here.

She ismine.

Iownher.

“Mr. And Mrs. Vece.” the priest says, trying to call for our attention.

I pull her back to her feet, ending the kiss.

The priest gestures for us to leave the church. He’s ready for his next couple. His next Vegas wedding.

And I am ready to take my wife somewhere more private.

In the reception area Verity runs over to the other bride and hands her veil back to her. “Thank you so much.” She hugs her tightly, almost causing both of them to fall over, then she runs back to me.

“Now what, husband?” She giggles, brushing her hand up my chest.

“Now - we celebrate, of course, Mrs. Vece.” I pick her up and throw her over my shoulder, carrying her, laughing and screaming, out of the chapel back to my car.

We don’t have to drive far at all before I spot a motel.

Those generic bright neon lights, with flashing pink lips and green handcuffs on the side of the building, confirm that it is exactly the type of place I’m looking for.

Somewhere where no one will think to search for us.

Verity is already opening her door when I get there but before she can climb out of the car, I hoist her back over my shoulder.

The sound of her laughter makes me smile.

A smile crept across my face as I realized the level of privacy was even higher than expected.
