She went to dismount, but Cain’s hands went around her waist and gently set her on the ground.
She looked over her shoulder at him. “Thank you.”
“You’re very welcome, Pet.”
Her eyes widened, and then she could feel a blush covering her face, making his grin grow.
Cain turned his back to her to face the group and went on to explain some things.
She went to hand him the reins, but he just shook his head and pointed to the end of the line, where she was before.
“Take him with you,” Cain said.
Eden nodded and walked to the line. The two men standing next to her shied away from the animal. She kept herself between them and Raider to make them comfortable.
“I’ve got him, guys. He’s not going to hurt you.”
They both nodded but still kept a few feet between them.
A few of the ranch men walked in.
“Good. Let’s work on just getting used to the horse today. Can you men each take a person, and Eden and I will take the last two.”
“I’d feel more comfortable with you supervising me,” the girl said.
“All right, Melani,” Cain said.
Eden had to bite her bottom lip to keep from laughing at the dread on his face.
She ended up with one of the guys. She taught him how to pet the animal and did that for an hour before Cain brought a stop to it.
“Let’s stop for lunch, but we’ll come back and work on bridles,” Cain said.
He tipped his head at me. “You can leave Raider with one of the guys.”
She nodded, handed the reins to the closest guy, and started walking away. She heard something behind her, turned, and saw Raider had jerked the reins from the guy and was headed toward her.
She caught him and then hugged him. “I’ll be back, big guy.”
The man came up with a sheepish smile. “Sorry about that. He needed another second of your time, I guess.”
“Well, he can have it,” Eden said and chuckled.
Chapter Four
She started following the group when a hand wrapped around her upper arm stopped her. She knew who it was just from his scent.
Eden turned to him but still could not look him in the eyes. She was more confident with a horse between them, but now it was just the two of them.
“I wanted to thank you for helping me,” Cain said without releasing her.
“You’re welcome. It was fun.”
“Would it be okay to call on you again?”
She nodded.
He squeezed her arm. “Go on and eat, and I’ll see you back here.”
