Alessandro quickly flips me so that I am underneath him, his body like a personal set of armor. I look around him and my mouth hangs open as I see Governor Ferguson and Aiden now being restrained by Uncle Gio and Antonio. Even for an 18-year-old kid, he is apparently strong enough to hold a wiggling Aiden down. My head flicks over to an unconscious Bethany, while my mother and Aunt Tasha stand over her with bloodied fists.
My father stands up, stepping over the man who had grabbed me. I notice that the man’s neck is twisted at an unnatural angle that must mean he is dead. Calm and collected as ever, my father strides over to Governor Ferguson and Aiden, straightening his jacket before bending down to their eye level.
“Well, well, well. I wonder what we should do now.”
I see the anger burning in Governor Ferguson eyes. I feel the fear seeping into Aiden’s veins. I can practically taste the vengeance in the air. They fucked with the wrong family.
Chapter Thirty One
Alessandro
My shoulder is fucking killing me, and I know that I am losing a fuck ton of blood, but none of that matters. I grip Seraphina’s face frantically.
“Bella, sweetheart. Seraphina. Look at me!” I beg.
She peels her eyes away from the bloody horrors in front of us before those glowing eyes settle on me.
“Are you hurt? Did they hurt you? I am so sorry I didn’t get to you sooner.”
“You got to me just in time,” she says breathlessly. “You saved us all. Y-you saved me and…and S-Seth,” she stutters as she looks at my former friend’s stiffening body.
I don’t know how I currently feel about the man that betrayed us. The one that has been one of my closest friends for over a decade. The one that shot my other friend and then not 10 minutes later saved Seraphina’s life. Now is definitely not the time to unpack that box of shit though. So, I shove it to the side and focus on more important things.
Standing up slowly, I help Seraphina to her feet. Fuck my shoulder is killing me. We carefully walk over to where the Ferguson family lays on the ground, ready for slaughter like the cattle they are.
Aiden looks up at our joined hands and sneers. “You have got to be fucking kidding me! You are seriously choosing him? Seraphina, baby. You love me. I know you do! You aren’t seriously going to let them kill me, are you? I can make you happy. We can start over, I promise. I love you,” he babbles pathetically.
Seraphina squats down, mimicking her father’s move only moments ago. “It’s always been him, Aiden. Never you.”
The truth of that statement is not lost on him. The pain that flickers across his face almost makes me feel bad for the guy, almost. That feeling is gone in a flash though and now all I would like to do is stomp his face into the ground. I turn away from the pathetic excuse of a man as my eyes trail over our families.
“Injuries?”
“No,” my father says as he strides over to us quickly, wrapping us both into a hug.
I almost forgot that he really thought that we were dead. That he thought he lost me. My mom practically body slams me, joining in on the hug as she begins to sob into my chest. I let go of my dad and face her so that I can properly hug her.
“My sweet boy. I thought you were gone. I-I th-thought that they took you from me,” she cries.
“I am okay, mom. Really.”
My mom looks over me one more time before nodding and moving to hug Seraphina like she can’t believe she is alive as well. My eyes look over the room and I see Aunt Ashlynn and Uncle Luc holding Antonio and Emilio tightly while Mateo has an arm wrapped around each of my sisters. Both of their heads buried into each side of his shoulders.
What is that little fucker up to?
I see Uncle Luc and Aunt Ashlynn swarm Seraphina, both of them squeezing so tight that I have to fight the instinct not to pull her away. This was hands down the scariest day for us all. We all almost lost everything and everyone we ever care about. I want to reassure everyone that Seraphina and I are okay. That we are all okay, but one other thing comes to the front of my mind.Drew.
Shit.
I turn on my heel, rushing out the door towards him. I see Seraphina following close behind me, as if she just remembered our fallen friend at the same time that I did.
Please don’t be dead, please don’t be dead.
When I get outside, I almost fall to my knees in relief as I see Benjamin and a number of other cars pile into the driveway. Several men are already hovering over Drew, loading him into a waiting car.
Seraphina and I rush over to him, poking our heads into the door of the back seat that he is laid out on. She lets out a little gasp as she covers her mouth.
“Drew?”
