The bedroom door creaks open and in walks Luca’s smiling face. “Hey Angel, how was your-”

He stops mid-sentence when he takes a look at my face. I am sure I am all blotchy red with puffy eyes from the endless crying. His face immediately hardens for a second before melting into a look of concern.

“What’s wrong Angel?” He asks as he crouches down coming face to face with me.

“I love you Luca.”

His face softens but confusion is still evident. “I love you Angel, did something happen? Why are you crying?”

I suck in a deep breath and blow it out before I meet his eyes. I give him a sad smile and pull the test from my lap handing it to him. He takes it and looks at it and then back to me, then back to it again and back to me. He rocks back on his heels and falls onto his ass, a look of pure shock forming across his face.

“Y-you’re pregnant?” He chokes out.

I give a small nod, searching his eyes to see what he is thinking. He is unreadable for a moment, then he does the most surprising thing. His face breaks out into a megawatt grin, the brightest I have ever seen in my life and he scoops me up and twirls me around laughing. I think I broke him. He has officially lost it.

“This is amazing!” He shouts. “But how? I thought…you know what it doesn’t even matter. I can’t believe this!” He says reaching a hand down and rubbing my stomach gently.

“Wait, you are happy?” I ask, finally voicing my confusion.

“Of course, I am! Why wouldn’t I be? The love of my life is carrying my child! A little bambino!” He starts excitedly speaking in Italian so quickly it makes my head spin.

“What about last night? You literally just told me you didn’t want kids.”

“Angel, I didn’t think it would be right for me to want to bring children into this world. But it looks like God took the option out of our hands and I am overwhelmed with joy.” He drops to his knees, so his face is in front of my stomach as he looks up at me.

“I promise to protect the two of you forever. No one will ever harm either of you and neither of you will ever want for anything for the rest of your lives, I swear it.”

I run my fingers through his hair and feel all of the tension lift from my shoulders, I smile as I look at him. He smiles back at me and kisses my stomach before he begins whispering to it.

“Hi there, it’s your daddy. I just wanted to tell you that you are so loved and will be spoiled rotten.”

I chuckle at that. No truer words have ever been spoken. This man will treat this kid like no other has ever been treated before.

“I think it is going to be a boy.” I say softly smiling down at Luca. “We won’t know for a while but I don’t know. It’s just a feeling.”

He shakes his head at me. “No way, sorry Angel but our bambino is a girl. Trust me.”

I scoff and shove him so he falls on his ass again. “Haven’t you ever heard of mother’s intuition? What are you going to say if it is a boy?”

“If it is a boy, I will be so happy to have a little man of my own. He can follow in my footsteps and I will teach him how to be a good man and how to treat women properly.”

I smile and run my fingers through his hair. “I like that.”

“Me too, but it isn’t a boy so maybe next time. For now, we have the perfect little princess,” he says as he kisses my stomach once more.

The rest of the night is spent with Luca excitedly talking about plans for the nursery, baby names and every other thing I can think of. Finally, I can get a word in. “How did looking into the leads go?”

“Oh, I almost forgot. That’s what I was coming to tell you before you gave me the best news of my life,” he says, eyes sparkling with happiness. “Anyways we have narrowed it down to 2 locations. We are going to investigate them tomorrow. They aren’t too far out of the city. We have checked all other possible places, so they have to be at one of these, unless they fled altogether. We don’t think that is the case since the guy we picked up made it seem like they were still nearby. We are so close to ending this Angel. I won’t let anything ever threaten our family again.” His eyes shine with determination and I smile at the thought of all of this almost being over.

“I know my love, I believe you,” I say, placing my hand to cup his face. He leans into the touch and smiles.

“Come on,” he says, pulling me up to stand. “Let’s go have dinner. You need to make sure you take better care of yourself from now on. I know you don’t always eat 3 meals a day, that’s going to change.” I roll my eyes at him.

“Are you really already trying to micromanage this pregnancy?” I say only a little put out. I am too relieved that he is happy about this to be upset with him.

“Angel, don’t push me. If you think I’ve been bad before, just you wait. Which reminds me, we need to get you in to a doctor. I will have someone come out.” He continues to ramble on about god knows what as we walk to the dining room. We run in to Giovanni on our way down.

“Gio! We have amazing news! We are having a baby!” Luca booms holding a hand over my belly. Giovanni’s mouth drops and he looks back and forth between us.
