“No shit? That’s awesome Boss!” Giovanni says before going in for a bro hug. They clap shoulders and the smile on Luca’s face is one I will never forget. There is so much pride and adoration in the way he is looking at me.

“Well, I was just heading home. Need anything before I go?” Giovanni asks.

“No, we are wonderful. I will see you in the morning,” Luca says sharing a meaningful look with Giovanni.

Giovanni nods in acknowledgment and hollers out goodbyes over his shoulder as he strides out of the house.

“Come on Angel, let’s go. Luis? Luis!” He shouts through the house.

All night, if someone came within 30ft of us he was announcing the news proudly. It was equal parts amusing and embarrassing to have all this attention on me. He kept displaying me like I am this magical creature that is creating a child. I mean I guess the creating a child part is right, but I think the stars Luca has in his eyes are a little over the top.

Chapter Twenty One

Luca

A baby. She’s having a baby, my baby. I always knew I wanted kids and I was sad when I realized it wouldn’t be probable in my world. But I never realized how badly I wanted to be a father until she told me we were having a baby. Nothing else mattered. Everything faded away and all I could think about was that there is a tiny perfect human growing inside the love of my life. Half her and half me, hopefully she is almost all Ashlynn.

From the instant she told me, I knew it was a girl. I know Ashlynn will be a great mother and I only wish my parents were around to be here when we have her. To have them all. Because this just sealed the deal. Ashlynn is mine forever, this is my family forever and we will be having a lot more bambino’s. A house full if I have anything to say about it.

Today went to the 2 warehouses we had recently learned about. We have not found even a trace of The Farelli at all the other locations we have searched so far, which tells me we are running out of options. They can’t possibly have anywhere else to hide that has not already been scoured and or burned to the ground. The first warehouse we went to was abandoned with no sign of anyone ever being there. Apparently, it had been purchased shortly before they attacked us on the street that day and it has yet to be used for whatever purposes they had for it. Where the fuck did they get the money for this on top of the new men and weapons?

The second location was another abandoned warehouse but this one had garbage and toiletries left behind, scattered around. We must have just missed them and that pisses me the fuck off. This unfortunately confirms my suspicions even more so that we do have a mole, someone had to have warned them. Now I also know that it has to be in my higher ranks since the Capos were instructed not to tell anyone about us looking into these new places.

To have a mole planted by the Farelli in my higher ranks is extremely unlikely as they have all been with me for years and the Farelli has only recently become an issue. So that points to one of my own going to them. I can’t think of a bigger betrayal.

Gio and Mario are standing with me in the empty space, both sharing equally concerned looks.

“This isn’t good, boss.” Mario says with his brows furrowed. “They must have known we were coming.”

“No fucking shit!” I snap, breathing heavily. I let out a deep exhale and turn my head up to the sky before leveling my eyes back to them. “They have to be somewhere else. Maybe they are cycling through locations. Maybe they are back somewhere we have already been before.” I stand there mulling over all the possibilities. “Get me a list of all the places that are still standing that we have searched so far. We will hit them tomorrow. I need to get home to Ashlynn.”

Mario starts to object. “Boss if they are out there then we need to keep on their trail, so they don’t have a chance to run again.” I lift my hand up to silence him.

“I’m going home. We will leave first thing in the morning. Don’t tell a soul of our plans.”

They both give begrudging nods and I walk out the door to head home. When I get back to the house it is well past dinner time but at least I came home at all. I knew if I didn’t Ashlynn would have been up worrying all night.

When I walk in the door I am hit in the face with the smell of warm cookies. I make my way to the kitchen and see every counter covered in a combination of flour, sugar or butter with chocolate chips everywhere. I don’t even know how one person could make such a mess, and I am guessing it wasn’t on purpose.

I look over to see Ashlynn standing in front of me with flour smudged across her cheeks, hands and even some in her messy bun. I cock a brow at the mess she has created and then back to her, attempting to withhold my amusement.

“Don’t give me that look, I will clean it up! But I made cookies and they are really good!” She says beaming with pride.

I chuckle and pull her close to me brushing my lips softly against hers. I will never get over how amazing it feels to kiss this woman. Then I roll up my sleeves and grab a rag, running it under the water before I begin wiping down the counters.

Her eyebrows shoot up as she watches me clean. I give her a nonchalant shrug and a small smile.

“The cook never cleans. “Mama taught me that as a kid. They smell delicious, Angel. It is the least I can do.”

“I love your mama. Thank you! I am going to run upstairs and take a shower. Bring a plate of those bad boys up to bed.” She leans over and places a sweet kiss on my cheek before she turns and bounces away.

After every inch of the kitchen has been scrubbed clean, I grab a plate of cookies and head upstairs. I find Ashlynn coming out of the bathroom in one of my dress shirts and a lacy pair of panties. She sees me and her smile brightens up the whole room, god she is so beautiful. She looks down at my hands and frowns.

“My love, did you forget the milk? You can’t have cookies without milk. It’s criminal!”

I bark out a laugh. “Well, I am a criminal,” I joke. Unfortunately, her disappointed look remains intact. “My apologies, my angel. I will go fix this grave mistake immediately.”

She giggles at my formal apology. “No, don’t worry about it. I’ll be right back. Don’t you dare eat one without me!” She shouts as she races down the stairs.
