"That sounds about right," Maddie said.

"Patrick, what happened?" Kyle finally asked.

All eyes turned to Patrick. He was the last one to arrive and had stayed mostly quiet while we girls talked.

Patrick took a deep breath. "This is what we know. She came by the lodge today expecting to meet up with Ruby."

“I guess she didn't know Liam and I picked her and Bran up and went straight back to our place,” Maddie said.

Patrick nodded. "She stuck around for a little while, then left. She lost control of the vehicle coming down a hill, she swerved, hit a tree at an odd angle that caused it to roll down a cliff, and stop upside down in the ravine just outside of town."

"I could gather that much, but what happened?" Kyle asked again.

Patrick looked at him solemnly. "Her brake line and power steering were cut at the lodge, Kyle. Cole found the leaks it caused in the parking lot and Archie confirmed the fluids. I physically verified that on the vehicle, or what's left of it as well."

"Oh my God, someone did this on purpose?" Maddie asked.

My little sister began to cry as I wrapped her into my arms for comfort.

"Where were the Collier guests?" Kyle asked through gritted teeth. His wolf was very near the surface and the power he was emitting was terrifying.

"They all checked out, Kyle. Ruby and Bran were the only two that didn't go through processing," Patrick said as all eyes turned to me.

"Don't look at me. We were with Maddie and Liam all day long," I said.

"I know that," Kyle said. "There's no way the two of you could be responsible for this."

"You asked about my Pack though. Is it because of the incidents that happened when you were visiting? Is someone trying to hurt Kelsey?" I asked.

"It's been a concern for sure," Patrick said.

"What?" Elise said. "What happened in Collier and why am I just hearing about this? Oh wait, are we talking about the food poisoning that made Ruby so sick?"

"Amongst other things," her mate said hesitantly.

"Other things?" she asked in that tone that dared him to even hesitate in explaining further.

"It's possible the other was a completely unrelated issue," Kyle said.

"When she was thrown from the horse," I said softly, starting to piece things together.

Kyle nodded.

"Has there been anything strange that's happened to her here, before today?" I asked, not certain I wanted to know the answer to my question.

Patrick shook his head. "Not that we’re aware of. There's been a few anonymous threats, but she's a Pack Mother, and that sadly happens all the time to people in positions of authority. We check each and every one out, but have found no true validity behind them."

"So Collier's the link, and there's no way you can dismiss this one. Someone tried to kill Kelsey," I said.

Bran

Chapter 23

Ruby woke me when she climbed into bed and snuggled into my side.

"Is Kelsey okay?" I asked, unsure if I was hoping she'd say yes or no. If Kelsey died and it wasn't my fault, the curse on me would be over and I'd be free to live my life. Liam had been kept informed throughout the night and I knew they were trying to put a case together with very little to go on. Something told me I knew the answers to their questions, I just didn't know who the spy was here in San Marco, or how my Alpha had managed to infiltrate Westin Pack.

“I wasn’t able to see her. Kyle has her locked down pretty tightly and Patrick has security monitoring their place. They think someone tampered with her car. Apparently, she’s in really bad shape and Kyle used Alpha powers to force her to take wolf form. It’s bad, Bran. I’m scared for her.”
