"I can't believe you're actually here!" Maddie squealed, turning to give me one more hug after clicking Sara into her car seat. “And Bran, it's really great to finally meet you," she said to my mate.

"I'm so sorry. I didn't even make introductions. Bran, this is my baby sister, Maddie, her mate Liam, and their precious kids, Oscar, and little Sara." I gushed at the baby, who had grown so much since the tiny little thing she'd been the last time I saw her.

Oscar jumped into the third bench. Bran and I walked around and slid in next to Sara while Liam drove us back to their house. Maddie had a full lunch buffet waiting for us when we arrived. Since Bran and I hadn't eaten breakfast before we left, I realized I was suddenly starving.

"This looks amazing. I am so hungry," I admitted.

I made myself a sandwich to eat while Maddie gave me the tour. Her house was beautiful, nestled in the woods with a gorgeous backyard for the kids. I thought about our place and what it would be like to have kids there. Sure, the woods and the creek with the playset out back were great, but my pup had an entire barnyard and miles and miles of open space in his or her backyard. What kid wouldn't love that?

We spent the day at Maddie and Liam's, just hanging out, getting to know each other, playing with the kids, and eating.

I was in my second trimester now and felt like I was always starving. I couldn't seem to possibly eat enough. Maddie kept assuring me it was completely normal and to just enjoy it and eat.

While sitting around the back deck talking after the kids went to bed, Maddie's cell phone rang.

"It's Elise. I should grab this," Maddie said. "Hello? What? How did that happen? Okay, yeah, we're on our way now," she said, hanging up the phone.

"That was Elise. Kelsey's been in an accident. It's bad. We need to go now. Micah's at home with her. He’s our Pack physician. Come on." She grabbed my hand as we started to head for the door, then stopped when she realized the kids were already in bed.

"Go," Liam said. "Bran and I will hang back and watch the kids. Just keep us posted. I'll wake them and take them to Mom's if need be, but I know you won't rest until you know Kelsey is okay."

I looked to Bran and he nodded in agreement. I gave him a quick kiss on the lips and Maddie and I were off.

It wasn't a long ride to Kelsey's place but both of us were on edge the entire time. I tried to press Maddie for more details, but she just didn't have any. Kelsey had been in a car accident, that was all we knew for certain.

We weren't the only ones to fill the house and check on her, either. The youngest Westin, Chase, and his mate Jenna had recently moved back home to San Marco. They met us at the door.

"How is she?" Maddie asked.

"We don't know much. Micah's still in there with her. Zander woke up from all the commotion, and is scared. Kyle doesn't need to worry about the boys too, so Jenna and I are taking them over to Mom's for the night. We'll hang out there and watch the kids. If Liam needs to drop off Oscar and Sara too, that's fine. We'll just make it a slumber party," Chase said.

Maddie gave him a quick hug. "Thank you. Liam and Bran stayed home with the kids until we find out what all's happening."

"Seriously, it's okay if he wants to leave them at Mary's. Chase and I will watch them. It gives us something to do at least besides just sitting around waiting."

Maddie nodded at her in thanks. "Oh, I don't think you guys have met yet. Jenna, Chase, this is my sister Ruby."

"Hi," Jenna said. "Sorry about all the chaos."

Elise walked over to greet us. "Ruby, I didn't know you were in town. I wouldn't have bothered Maddie with this if I had. I'm so sorry."

"Kelsey's my friend, of course I want to be here too," I told her. "And we just got in this morning. It was a last minute decision. I barely gave Maddie notice."

"Well come on in, find a seat wherever. We're just hanging out and waiting to hear how she’s doing."

Chase and Jenna left with Kelsey's sons, and the rest of us settled down for a long night catching up, because in truth there really wasn't anything we could do.

It was hours later before Kyle finally came out of the bedroom. He looked terrible as he stood in the entryway, taking in the room. There had been many more to come and go throughout the night, but now it was just down to me, Maddie, Elise, and Patrick.

"How is she?" Elise asked.

Kyle let out a deep breath and sat down hard on the chair across from me.

"She's going to be okay. I had to use my Alpha powers to force her to shift. I could feel how much it hurt her, but Micah felt it was the safest and fastest way for her to heal. He worked as fast as he could to set the broken bones in her wolf form. He only had to re-break two of them. She's physically healing fast, though she's been ordered to stay in wolf form for the next twenty-four hours."

"Bet that pissed her off," Elise commented.

Kyle smiled and nodded. "She's of course more worried about me and the boys than herself."
