Noah and I walk out of my room holding hands. He has his laptop bag on his shoulder. He kisses my hand before I head into my office and he goes to sit at a table. TJ was sitting there with Derby until I motioned for her to come here. Noah and TJ begging chatting about something on TJ’s phone.

“What’s up?” she asks turning back to watch TJ and Noah.

“I got an idea, well actually Noah had the idea. Do you think you could call church? I want officers and members. Prospects need to be close by.”

“Families too?” Derby questions me with her phone in hand.

“I don’t know but I’ll let everyone know before the meeting is over.” She nods as I head to Joker’s office. I knock on the door waiting for thecome inbut got thefuck off I’m busy. “It’s me. I needed to talk to you about something, but it can wait.” I hear the lock and the door open my eyebrows are lost in my hairline. “You look like shit.” I step into her office. “Please tell me you’re sleeping.”

“I tried to sleep, but they kept beeping.” Joker lets out a sigh that turns into a yawn.

“Can someone help you? We need you at one hundred percent. I know right now it’s crazy.”

“It’s just that. Right now we are so busy because we have three different things going on right now. We have Tommy, Luca, and Michelle. We just ended Richie Jr. I flop down on one of her chairs.

“Joker, you find someone you trust to help you with all of this. I don’t think we are going to slow down anytime soon.”

“I know, but this is my domain.” Joker sighs as her fingers fly over the computer. “Anyway, after we deal with DeMarco we will get back to this conversation. What do you need me to do?”

“Noah brought something up that I didn’t think about. I’m sure you have, but I wanted to talk to you about it.” She nods for me to continue. “I know Michelle’s phone is off, but what about the numbers she’s called and texted? Have we narrowed down who is who? If we can get Lukas’s number, we might be able to check his GPS movements or hack his phone to find Tommy through him.” Joker spins around in her computer chair staring right at me. She narrows her eyes at me then moves back to her computer, typing even faster. Joker’s muttering to herself. I caught, stupid, moron, basic hacking skills. “Joker, don’t be hard on yourself. We didn’t suspect Lucas was Tommy’s son. Everything we had on Lucas was squeaky clean.”

“Don’t try to make me feel better.” I grab her hand off the keyboard to make her look at me. “Amelia, please.” Joker’s voice is a whisper.

“Look at me when I say this. I need you to really hear me. You’re doing a kick ass job. You keep us safe and we’d be lost without you. Don’t be so hard on yourself. You are only one woman. You can’t think of everything, just like I can’t protect everyone here. We work as a team.”

“I’m sorry. It’s just,” Joker opens her mouth, but she’s interrupted when the door opens.

“Everyone is here.” Bubbles declares. “Everything okay in here?” Joker nods.

“We’re good. Joker’s going through Michelle’s contacts now. You bringing your laptop in with you?” Joker grabs it as she opens it and types in her password. The three of us walk together. Noah and TJ are talking and writing things while laughing. Derby gets up from the table, shaking her head at their antics. I smile at Noah when he watches me stand outside church. We leave our phones at the table outside the wooden doors.

“Sorry for the urgent call. I know most of you are working today.” I walk to my chair at the head of the table. Swallowing hard, I stare at each of the women around the table. “As most of you know, the police informed us of Michelle’s kidnapping. We have ring camera footage to let us know she’s with DeMarco. It seems she went willingly as she’s dating Luka, his son. Joker is working on a few leads to hunt them down. The bomber, from the body shop and Noah’s injuries, is dead.”

“It was beautiful.” Tripline chef kisses with her hands. We all laugh.

“Things are going to move fast. It might be we get the locations and within an hour, we’re doing battle. Once we get the locations, we’re going on lockdown. Prepare your families, have go bags ready. We’re going to have Pop do some grocery shopping with Fancy and some prospects, so we’re stocked up. It could be a week or two until things are calm down. I honestly don’t know how things are going to go.” Fancy raises her hand. I nod in her direction.

“What about the businesses? We need to keep the money flowing, don’t we?”

“After the meeting, the officers will work on something.” DaVinci, who runs the salon, pipes up. “As a whole, we need to make sure the businesses and the club are safe.” Fancy sits back in her chair, satisfied with the answer. There are some questions, but my officers answer so I don’t need to, which is great. We adjourn the meeting and as I leave Church, the detective comes into the compound. Fuck.

Chapter Thirty-Four

Noah

TJ and I answered all of the questions in the email for the architect. Now I’m finalizing things for my law degree transfer.

“What is that room?” Pointing to the room I saw the women walk into after dropping their phones off onto the table.

“Church. It’s only for the women who are officers and members. There are a lot of rules for that room. It’s very sacred.” Pop, who I found out is the chef and married to Fancy, one of the members. He’s like the dad to most of the women. “Can I make you guys a burger?” TJ says hell yes and I nod. I notice the time and realize I need another antibiotic. “I heard you’re quite themarksmanship. Smitty and Derby were raving about how you picked up everything. They’re planning some fun activities for you.” He chuckles before moving back to the kitchen.

“What is he talking about?” I ask TJ but before he could answer, doors are opening everywhere it seems. The detective from earlier comes walking in with a couple of cops and the Church doors open.

“Detective, what can we do for you?” TJ walks over to him. He crosses his arms as he stares him down. “News on my sister?”

“More questions for you and your sister. Where is she?” He snaps. I begin to stand from my chair because I’m not going to have this man behave this way, there’s no reason for the disrespect.

“Detective, care to change the tone.” I walk to stand next to TJ. “You need to remember they are the victim’s family. They’ve done nothing wrong.”
