“Oh, we rented a car so we could come and go. Since Noah’s car was totaled, Jim will also work on getting that situated. Once we have the new car, we will return the rental.”
“Sounds good. You have the address to his place, and Smitty knows to let you in. The guest room is all set up for you. I ensured it when I went there to sleep the other night. My brother kicks me out to get real rest and not ‘sleep on a recliner in the hospital’ rest.”
“I’m glad someone is ensuring you’re taking care of yourself. It’s best to ensure you’re also healthy because the ones in the hospital will need you when they get out. If you go down, then you both will be fucked.” We both laugh, and she tells me to give her love to Noah. I tell myself I will do just that when I hang up. I stand stretching my body, cracking my back. I lean over to him.
“I just heard you’re a stubborn man who likes his sleep. I don’t mind you sleeping, but Noah, I need you to open your fucking eyes and say something to me. You’ve been out for a week. I don’t do well with quiet.” Noah mumbles something. I move closer to his lips. “What did you say?” He mumbles again. I move closer again, his lips find mine, and we kiss. I deepen the kiss and moan into his mouth.
“Well, it seems like he’s awake.” TJ’s sarcastic tone breaks the kiss. Noah raises his left hand to flip him off. We both laugh. “It’s great to see you’re awake and fine.”
“What happened?” His voice is hoarse. I ask him if he wants water, and he nods. Telling him to take small sips, I glance at TJ, hoping he will help me find some answers. I don’t know if we can tell him the answers right away.
“There were two bombs planted at the body shop. The first one took out the bay. It looks like you were on the phone when it went off. The impact sent you flying into the wall, and the place lit fire. You suffered third-degree burns from your neck down. The doctors had to put you into a medically induced coma to let your body heal.” I tell him as I hold his left hand.
“The second bomb went off when this one decided to run into the building looking for you.” Noah glares at me. I shrug. “It went off when she was about ten feet from the building.”
“I got a concussion and some bruising. I’m healing. Your mom and dad will be here tomorrow. I had your phone hacked to find your family.”
“Thank you. Are you sure you’re okay?” I nod. “Good. Now, where is the doctor so I can get out of here? Do you know who did this to me?” TJ looks at me and then at Noah. Noah looks between the two of us. “Tell me or I’m going to be pissed off.”
“It was one of the guys who came on your first day. He came in through the back. I don’t know how he got in. I’m so sorry. I’ll cover all your medical bills.”
“I’m not worried about that. Remember, I’m a trust fund baby. I have money. Do you have him?” Noah looks right at me. I shake my head. “I want a piece of him when you do.”
“Noah, you stay out of club business,” I warned him.
“It’s my life. You can’t keep me away from it.” He demands and stares at TJ. “It’s your business too.”
“It’s part of the Valkyries MC. She has my hands tied. I can’t even do anything. I need you to get better because we have to rebuild and don’t want to do it without you.” TJ’s words make me tear up. “If you want, I’m willing to partner up with you. Amelia has 20 percent. I’d like you to buy it for 20 percent if you want, of course.”
“I’d like that. Are you going to rebuild where it stood?” The boys started talking about business, and I played on my phone. I don’t want to leave now that he’s awake.
Chapter Twenty-One
Noah
“Baby!” My mom’s voice cries as she enters my room. The doctors were just in to let me know I’m healing great and won’t need skin grafts, but I will have some scarring. The muscles will need some therapy to gain some strength again. I sigh.
“Mom. I’m not a baby.” I smile at her, giving her a half hug as she cries into my neck. “I’m good. The doctor says I can begin physical therapy later today. It’s progress.”
“Honey, let the man breathe.” She fluffs my pillows. “It’s good to see you awake. Are you eating?” Just then, the nurse comes in with some soft food. My throat is still sore from the tube beingdown my throat for a week. I love their smoothies. Dad checks out what I have, and he grunts his approval.
“Where’s Amelia? I was hoping to meet her.” My mom asks.
“She had to get to work. Now that I’m out of the danger zone, I forced her to get her ass out of this hospital. Amelia has a lot of businesses she needs to overlook, plus with the body shop insurance fucking them around.” Shaking my head, I need a new laptop and phone, “Dad, do you think you could do some work for me? The fire destroyed my phone and laptop. I need new ones. My card is—I don’t even know where my shit is.”
“I can buy it for you. Do you have a passcode on your phone account?” I shake my head. “If they need any information, I’ll have them call your mom’s phone. Anything else?” I try to think.
“I don’t think so. TJ is getting me a new house key from Smitty.” Dad leaves the room after kissing my mom.
“I didn’t tell Mitchell about this, but I told your grandfather. He tried calling you, and I explained you were in a coma. He might call me, or I’ll send him a text to give him an update.”
“Thanks for not tellingthe father. How is grandfather? He wants to come visit me. So you’ve talked to Amelia?” I smile, and Mom nods. “She’s great, isn’t she? I’ve never been happier.”
“Your grandfather is doing well. He’s currently wanting to kick your dad’s ass for treating you the way he did.” I shake my head. “Amelia sounds perfect for you. I can’t wait to meet her. She’s a no-nonsense kind of girl.”
“She sure is. My sister will tell Noah off while smiling.” TJ stands in the doorway. “Sorry for interrupting. Amelia wanted me to check in on you since she’s at the clubhouse.” His eyes go to my mom. “Smitty says get better. Don and Charlotte are making your meals, so you don’t have to worry about cooking for the first week you come home. Smitty is putting them in the freezer for you.”
“I’ll have to thank them and figure out how to pay them back for it.”
