Shaking my head, I look down at my front legs. Black, not brown fur covers them. Startled, I stumbled back on my hind legs.
Braxton’s wolf jumps into the circle. He cautiously approaches, speaking to me through his wolf. “Nyah, mate of mine., It seems the Gods have blessed you. Do not be afraid.”
He looks over to Levi, who along with Kenia have shifted to their human forms and now have blankets covering their private parts. Braxton jerks his head towards the foil pans stacked on a table daddy is using to feed the Pack.
Levi runs over and grabs one. He unwinds the edges as he walks back to his spot outside of the circle. Kenia helps as they roll out the heavy-duty foil.
I turn my head to the side when they have the pan fully rolled out and Kenia brings the metal to me.
My wolf and I are confused and have more than twenty-one questions as to why this has happened.
Daddy enters the circle, then drops down on his knees in front of me. He cups the side of my wolf’s face. “You look so much like your momma. Down to the black fur and red eyes, that’s why I said her name after seeing your transformation. Just from seeing this, I know Willa is still with me, raising you girls.” Daddy eyes leave from me to Kenia then back to me.“You two have proven you are daughters of Willa, the fierce Shifter Maidens.” He closed his eyes, then opened them. They are a neon green color. His radiant eyes regard me with intent. I almost shift as he drops down on his right knee.
“And you will not shift,” Elder Nelah directs to me as if she heard my thoughts. She appears with a young woman behind her, carrying an engraved wooden box.
Elder Nelah reaches daddy’s side, then takes the box and hands it to daddy.
“Thank you, Elder,” he says. Elder Nelah nods before taking two steps back.
Daddy opens the box and smiles. “I have waited a long time for this moment. Your momma and I had pieces fashioned for you and Kenia. We were to give them to you together if your true inner wolf ever emerged. I wish Willa were here to see how beautiful you are.”
Chapter 34
Braxton
Nyah sucks in a deep breath as Alpha Lightfeather pulls out a necklace with a perfectly sculpted black wolf pendant hanging from it.
Through tearful eyes, Alpha Lightfeather says, “Who would have known the color Willa picked for your pendant would actually be the same as your wolf?” He chuckles, “That woman always saw things I never did.”
Tears stream onto Nyah’s facial fur as Alpha Lightfeather places the necklace over her head. He leans forward and rubs his head against Nyah’s. It’s a touching moment, even when Kenia joins them. This has only made the Lightfeather and Midnight Pack stronger.
Alpha Lightfeather is the first to pull back. He admiringly stares at his daughters before telling Kenia, “By you being the oldest, I always thought you would show your wolf first. I think because Nyah is mated and because of her near-death experience, her wolf chose that time to appear. Please, don’t feel slighted, I have your necklace and pendant too, when the time comes.”
Kenia reaches out and wipes away her father’s tears. “I don’t feel slightest in the least, daddy. I know my time is coming and when it does, I hope my wolf and I will make you and momma just as proud. This is Nyah’s moment and as her sister and best friend, I’m just ecstatic to be here to be a part of it.” Kenia cuts her eyes to me, smiling. “I always knew you were destined for great things, and you just proved my point. I love you, Nyah.”
“I love you too,” she replied.
Alpha Lightfeather stands, then helps Kenia up. He then summons two members to bring blankets for us. Kenia takes oneand lays it across Nyah’s wolfs back as Alpha Lightfeather does the same for me. Nyah and I shift, then adjust the clothes around our bodies.
“Daddy,” Nyah starts.
“Yes,” he responds.
She grasps his hand. “Before Megan died, she said more of her people would come.”
Alpha Lightfeather glances at father. Father and Levi come to his side.
“We knew eventually the time would come for them to retaliate,” Alpha Lightfeather says. “We’ll be ready if they come.”
Father adds, “I’ve sent for one hundred of our best soldiers to come here. Fenrir’s minions are going to have one fight on their hands having to deal with the Midnight and Lunar Wolves Packs.”
Alpha Lightfeather points out several of his male and female Pack members. “These warriors have been here since the beginning. As they’ve done before this, they will continue their strenuous training with all able body members.”
Thinking about what Megan said about the entrance onto Pack lands, I tell Alpha Lightfeather, “It’s probably a good idea to close the entrance for now and have reliable guards monitor who enters and leaves Pack lands.”
“Already taken care of,” he says.
I then turned to father, asking, “What do we tell our Pack members about mother and Megan.”
