He shrugged his shoulders before replying, “The truth. There have never been any secrets when it comes to Pack relations. They need to know the truth regardless if it’s hard to believe.”

“Okay,” I say.

Alpha Lightfeather places his hand on my shoulder. “I know this has been an overwhelming day for Nyah and the rest of us,so take her for a walk. It will give the two of you time to discuss her true wolf.”

Nyah snorts, looking at me. I let out a howl before she took off running into the woods. I wait a few seconds before giving chase. I quickly pick up her scent and she’s heading in the direction of her grandmother’s house.

Minutes pass as I cut through trees and foliage to find my mate. As I come through the tree line behind what was once Nyah’s grandmother’s cabin, I slow down. Nyah is sitting on the ground, staring at the stream.

Sitting down behind her, I scoot forward to wrap my arms around her waist. I kiss the soft skin of her neck, inhaling her natural aromatic scent. “Your wolf is beautiful, Nyah. I’ve never seen a black wolf with red eyes. She is amazing.”

“Thank you,” Nyah says. “I was shocked when I saw my reflection. I thought I was fighting with my old wolf. I did feel stronger and more powerful, but I thought it was from the adrenaline rush.”

“We were all shocked, witnessing your transformation. She is definitely larger than your other wolf and mightier. My wolf and I are truly blessed to have you both as our mates.”

Nyah focuses on the creek.

Sitting next to her, I ask, “What do you see?”

It takes her a moment, but she finally answers, “The water is like life ever flowing. I want to keep that for us and our families.”

“I will give my last breath to make sure it stays that way,” I declare. “It’s evident that the Gods put us together for a reason. It’s now up to you, me, Levi, and Kenia to uphold the sanctity of our Packs.”

“To the death,” Nyah returns with a yawn. She giggles, covering her mouth. “Sorry about that.”

“There’s nothing to be sorry about, love,” I tell her. “This has been an exhausting day.”

Nyah begins to speak but her words are cut off when the sound of twigs breaking in the woods catches our attention. Nyah and I stand, ready to shift. I let out a sigh of relief when Crown appeared.

Nyah jogs over to the fawn and stoops down, showering Crown with Eskimo kisses. She scoops him up in her arms, whispering words of endearment.

As they walk back to me, Nyah jerks her head to the shed that wasn’t affected by the fire.

“There’s a four-man tent, sleeping bags, and other items we’ll need to get us through the night. Before we set everything up, let’s go down to the creek and get washed up.”

“You lead, and I will follow,” I tell her.

Nyah laces her fingers with mine before heading towards the path that leads to the stream.

I honestly thought the night would end differently, but after rethinking about everything that happened, I couldn’t see it any other way.

After getting cleaned up and frolicking in the water, Nya left with Crown to go back to the homemade campsite. I stayed behind after finding fish traps to catch dinner and maybe breakfast for us in the morning.

Not going to lie, after the first hour of not trapping a single fish, I almost gave up and wanted to go back to Nyah to convince her that we needed to return to her father’s house, but I guess the Gods saw otherwise.

Pulling in the final basket I tossed out, it’s heavier than before. Since I didn’t catch any fish before, I’m thinking there must be a turtle or debris inside it. I almost do a happy dance as the basket comes out of the water with two large catfish captured inside.

Chapter 35

Nyah

After leaving Braxton at the creek, Crown and I went back. Seeing the burned debris of the once beautiful cabin breaks my heart. Corey’s lucky his body parts along with his fathers were burned before being buried deep in the forest, because I would take the remains to Elder Nelah to see if she could bring his ass back to life so I could kill him again. Only this time it would be way worse than having the Pack members ripping him limb from limb.

It's wishful thinking, though. I’ve seen Elder Nelah do some amazing things, but I don’t think resurrecting the dead is one of them.

Sitting Crown next to me, I look up to the clear blue sky. I close my eyes, letting the rays of the sun caress my face. A soft gust of wind tickles my skin. Opening my eyes, I smile as a white dove soars through the sky. Growing up I was taught that doves symbolize peace, freedom, and love. All three I welcome with open arms.

Walking to the shed, an aura of peace runs through me. My steps are halted when a familiar voice speaks to me.
