The clicks come again as she glides back, opening her fist, unleashing whatever hold she had on Megan.
Megan scrambles back. “You’re lying! I am pregnant with Braxton’s baby.”
Elder Nelah lets off two more clicks with her tongue, garnering everyone’s attention. She points to Megan, “Since she thinks I’m lying after being the Midwife and Shaman of the Midnight Pack for more decades any of you can count.” She does a different clicking sound with her mouth, sending several young female members off in the direction of her home.
I’ve seen and been a part of Elder Nelah’s requests, never questioning why it was always female members to retrieve what she needed.
She trains her eyes on Braxton, saying, “I know you’re not going to believe this witch over me. Can’t you see they’ve already brainwashed you?” Megan does a one-eighty with her arms out. “Look at where you are, Braxton. The Braxton I know would never belittle himself to associate with peasants.”
Through our bond, I link with Braxton, demanding,“Who the Hell is she calling peasants? I am an Alpha female, who by Shifter rank is above her.”
“I know, mate of mine, but she has let my mother get in her head,”he says back.
“And I’m about to get in her ass.”
Cracking my neck, I ask, “Elder Nelah, just so I’m clear...she’s not pregnant?”
“She’s not,” she replies.
Members of the Pack started moving back, removing themselves from being on the end of fury I’m about to inflict on Megan.
Megan, noticing that she wasn’t going to get any sympathy from Braxton, implores, “Braxton, please, whatever that vile she wolf has done to corrupt your mind, think about me and your child.” She pleads with her eyes, but he might as well be blind because he’s not falling for her bullshit.
“You wanted so badly to be his mate,” I say, slowly walking towards her. “Now fight me for him.”
Chapter 32
Braxton
My head is spinning, and I feel like I am in a fog of perpetual confusion. How could my mother have done such awful things? To hear her admit to killing my siblings and her whole reasoning for being with my father was to try and get him to side with the enemy, that shit fucked me up. My mother has done some questionable shit in the past, but nothing could compare to this.
Although I loved my mother, the emotions of pain, heartbreak, and betrayal that hit me from my father as I watched him take her life, there was no way I could intervene. My father might have never officially claimed my mother as his mate, he still provided for as such. Now I know it was because of me. He knew but couldn’t prove that she had a hand in the twins’ deaths, so he bid his time for her to confess one day. Some might call me an asshole for not going to my mother’s defense, but honestly if my father hadn’t done what he did, I would have to avenge my brothers. With me, one thing you don’t do is cross family and my mother did so in the most heinous way.
I focus back on Nyah as she keeps a distance from Megan, circling around her. “Ramona’s gone now, Megan so you can drop the innocent act. You’re not pregnant by Braxton, and whatever bullshit plan you and her had has blown up in your faces.”
Megan’s frightened demeanor quickly changes. Her eyes change from golden brown to entirely black.
She laughs, saying. “You’re right. I’m not pregnant. As for Ramona...” Megan shrugs her shoulders. “Her death is the result of her not getting the job done.”
“Bitch,” I growl, ready to attack her but Nyah shakes her head, stopping me.
Megan laughs harder. “Oh, come now Braxton; are you really going to put hands on me because of what I just said, but not stop your own father from taking your mother’s life?”
My jaws click as I stare at her. This is not the same Megan I grew up with.
She laced her fingers together, then nestled them under her chin. “I guess it’s time for me to let my little secret out of the bag.” Megan displays a toothy grin, adding, “You see, when Braxton’s mother wasn’t able to get Bryant to join Fenrir’s army, I was sent to work on the next generation, since I am one of the few descendants of Fenrir.”
“I don’t believe it,” Father shouts, looking at Alpha Lightfeather puzzled, then back at Megan. “If you are a descendant of Fenrir, I would have known.”
Megan pouts as she teases, “Would you? Hundreds of years have passed by, and while you thought you could single us out, we have used modern day technology over the years and essential herbal oils to keep our true identity disclosed. The only reason you weren’t able to discover Ramona’s deception is because of us. Which is the same reason why you didn’t suspect me as the enemy.” She looks down at her fingernails, adding, “Some people are so ignorant, they don’t know when the true threat is right in their face.” Megan looks up, extending her pointer fingers to me, revealing, “I almost had you in the palms of my hands if it wasn’t for you crossing paths with this bottom feeder.” Megan drops her intertwined hands, “Look Braxton, I’m willing to let all of this shit go. We can still leave here together without any of these people losing their lives.”
Without a second thought, I respond, “Fuck you.”
“And you have,” Megan giggles. “So many times, just the thought of us fucking makes my panties wet.” Her evil eyes roll towards Nyah. “Have you experienced that yet?”
As Nyah was about to respond a group of men; at least twenty or so are racing into the backyard.
Megan waves her hand. “Oh, don’t worry about them. They’re just here to make sure I leave in one piece.” She swivels her head to Alpha Lightfeather. “You should really think about putting a security detail at the entrance. You never know when you might be caught off guard.”
