“I suggest we go into the den and binge watch movies. There are some good ones out now, plus we can each pick one of our old favorites. All of us have crazy schedules, so I know I’m not the only one who’s missed going to movies,” I suggest.
They nod in agreement.
“Sounds good to me,” Karisa says.
“Yeah, me too but please nobody pick anything that has to do with spirits and ghosts. I can watch just about anything but that...that shit is real,” Hailey requests, with a pleading expression. “Give me a good zombie movie any day over that mess.”
Janae snickers. “So, you’ll watch dead people but not ghosts? Make it make sense.”
“Oh, I got the perfect movie for her,” Nina teases.
Hailey cringes. “Come on, Nina.”
I laugh saying, “Nope those are the rules, we each pick a movie and the others have to watch.”
Devyn rubs her big sisters shoulder, then tries to comfort her. “It’s okay, Hailey. I’ll sleep with you tonight if you’re too scared.”
That causes all of us to laugh louder. Hailey can’t even hold in her own.
“Devyn, will you go into the kitchen and grab the note-pad and pen on the refrigerator,” Nina asks.
Devyn hops up from her chair, then heads for the kitchen.
“There are five of us, so I’ll write numbers on the paper.” Nina grabs an empty bowl, then uses her napkins to wipe it clean. “I’ll put them in here, then we’ll each pick a number. Whatever number you pull will be the order of our movies.”
Devyn returns, handing the items to Nina. She writes the numbers on the paper, then rips them from the paper. She then rolls the bits of paper into balls before tossing them into the bowl. Next, she stirs them up.
Althaia, GeeGee, and Ismena laugh at our silliness as they talk amongst themselves. They probably won’t sit in on our binge-a-thon. With them being a part for so many years, they were probably taking this time to catch up.
“Alright, here we go. I’ll send the bowl around clockwise and pick my number last to be fair. Don’t look at your number until everyone has picked theirs.,” Nina states, handing the bowl to Janae.
She pulls hers, followed by Hailey, then Karisa, then me. I hand her the bowl and she takes out the last balled up piece of paper.
“What about me?” Devyn inquires, looking down into the bowl, then at each of us.
Hailey quickly replies, “Oh, we didn’t forget about you. Whatever movie you pick will be in between three and four.” We nod at her when she glances at us for confirmation.
GeeGee chimes in. “Whatever you all pick and it has some raunchy mess in it, you better send Devyn out of the room before it comes up. I don’t want my baby seeing that nasty stuff you little hot pants like to watch.”
“We promise, GeeGee,” Nina returns as she crosses her heart, grinning.
“Okay, let’s see what the order is,” Karisa sings.
GeeGee, Althaia, Ismena, and Devyn look on as we begin to unravel the paper, then sit our numbers on the table in front of us. I shake my head, poor Hailey. Nina drew number one and that means she gets to pick the first movie, and I’m sure it’s going to be a spooky one. Hailey palms her forehead, groaning in her chair when Nina announces her pick is going to beInsidious.
Not going to lie, we’re halfway through the movie and I can’t even count how many times I’ve jumped watching this shit. I felt bad for Hailey, she’s spent most of the time with her head under the covers. After the first scary scene, Devyn claimed she was going to check on the older women and has yet to return. I have to give it to Nina, her pick is definitely a hair raiser.
After the last scary scene, someone’s cell phone begins to ring. Nina pauses the movie. I knew it wasn’t mine by the ring tone. Xander gave me this phone before I left Chicago and I haven’t had time to customize it.
“It’s mine,” Janae says, reaching over to the end table to pick up her phone, then looks at the screen. “It’s Trappa. Hello.”
Her eyes widen as she listens to him. “Wait, wait, wait. Hold on Trap, let me put you on speaker so Nina and the others can hear you.” She hits the speaker icon, then holds the phone out in front of her. “Okay, say that again.”
“I asked, what the fuck them Greeks got going on? I haven’t heard from them since that shit went down with Andre, which is cool with me because if we’re not doing business, then keep it silent, but today I get a call from some Latinos I handle business with, asking me if I knew the Kourakos family here in Dallas. I played the shit off and told them no, then they asked me to put some feelers out to find out where they lay their heads. What the fuck is going, Nae Nae? This is the second time me and my people are being pulled into some shit with those Greeks.”
“Oh, shit! Trappa, let me have Nina call Balthazar so she can tell him what’s going on. There is some messed up shit going down but I think Balthazar is the person you need to talk to about it,” Janae tells him.
“Well, somebody better tell me something quick. I don’t like to be put in the middle of other folks’ bullshit. I gave them a pass the last time because of you and finding out what a sleaze ball Andre really was, but now, these are some of my high paying customers and I don’t know if I can do that.”
