“Hey baby, did I wake you?” I ask, going over to the bed, then pulling the covers back before sitting on the edge of it.

“Yes, but I’m glad you did.” She yawns. “I tried to stay up to wait for you to call but I guess sleep got the better of me.”

I chuckle. “I see, well don’t fight the sleep, Sabre. If you’re tired, rest. It’ll help with your recovery. Speaking of that, how are you feeling? Any pain or discomfort?” Shit that she shouldn’t be having. Hell, she should be glowing with her pregnancy. Closing my eyes, I push the consuming thoughts out of my mind.

“I had a little bit of cramping earlier, but had a snack, then took a pain pill. Oh, but you’ll never guess what happened before that,” she excitedly says, perking up.

“What happened?”

“Xander, your Mother, Althaia, and GeeGee had a breakthrough. It started with your Mother and Karisa wanting to take me to your house but Althaia and GeeGee weren’t having it. Well, words were exchanged and it seemed like neither of them were going to back down, but Althaia had a heart to heart with your Mother. Baby, it would’ve brought tears to your eyes. After their come to Jesus moment, things seemed to take a turn for the better. They are actually getting along.”

I sigh with relief as I lift my legs onto the bed, then press my back against the headboard.

“That’s so fucking good to hear. It’s been a long time coming and I am extremely happy they have put their differences aside. We, meaning us men, have been wanting this for a long time, especially me. I needed my two families back as one.” I was sure Father was smiling down on them.

“I know, Xander, I know. I know this means the world to you, but not to change the subject, what is going on up there? What have you found out? Are you ready for your meeting tomorrow?”

Sliding down onto the pillow and getting comfortable, I reply, “I’m ready for all of this to be over with, so I can be there with you.” She giggles. “As far as what’s going on here, I met up with Joshua earlier and he had nothing to do with that bullshit with Santiago. I’ve sending him and his girlfriend away from the city since he expressed wanting to leave the business. Now Greg, that’s a whole different story. He’s so deep in with the Cartel, I don’t think there is any way for him to leave other than in a body bag.”

I’m met with silence before Sabre states, “Thank you for helping Joshua. He mentioned a few times before that he was getting tired of the fast life, I just never took him seriously since that’s all I’ve ever known him to do. I don’t even want to talk about Greg. I heard him loud and clear during our conversation. The way I see it, our sibling relationship ended when he suggested I meet with that murderer.”

“And that shit will never happen,” I declare. “After tomorrow, hopefully we can come to an agreed upon terms that will never have you in the presence of either one of those assholes.”

She let out a long breath. “I hope you’re right. What about my parents?”

“They’re sticking with Greg,” I respond.

I know hearing that probably makes her feel sad, but if anyone knows how her parents really are, it was Sabre.

“Hmmm,” she hums. “I’m not surprised.”

Breaking the silence I tell her, “Hey, don’t worry about it. Everything will be fine. Get some rest and I will call you when I can. After the meeting tomorrow we will be flying back to Chicago so Yiannis can start showing his cousin around the city. We should be back there in a few days.”

“Okay,” she whispers. “Xander, please be careful.”

“Always,” I promise.

“Love you”

I smile. “I love you too. Get some rest.”

Hitting the end button, I sit the phone on the nightstand, then place my hands behind my head, lacing my fingers together. I pray shit goes as planned tomorrow, if not then the Cartel is about to find out how ruthless the Greeks can be.
