“So, Joshua how do you like my condo,” I question, holding my arms out, smiling.
He looks around, but I think he’s more interested in Zar and the others sitting or standing, watching him closely.
“It’s cool, I guess, but I’m sure you don’t have me here to check out your style of décor,” he sarcastically replies.
My smile fades as I become serious. “You’re absolutely right. It’s all nice and clean now but you wouldn’t have thought that a day or so ago when Sabre’s blood was smeared on the fucking door and floor.”
His eyes widen, then he jumps to his feet. “What the fuck do you mean Sabre’s blood? What the fuck happened to my sister?”
The sound of a muffled gun shot from Alistair’s gun with the silencer pierces my couch next to Joshua.
“Didn’t I tell you no questions?” His crazy ass laughs.
“No questions? He just said my sister’s blood was found in here and y’all won’t tell me where she is or if she is okay. Until I find out what happened to her, I’m going to ask fucking questions. So, if my concern for little my sister bothers you, then you might as well shoot me now,” Joshua declares, not fearing for his life.
Alistair shrugs his shoulder before aiming his pistol at Joshua, but Zar stops him as his finger starts to tighten on the trigger.
“Alistair, lower your gun.”
Alistair side eyes him, then lets out a frustrated deep breath.
“Sit down, Joshua,” I tell him.
He hesitates but retakes his seat as I continue.
“After we left Sabre’s house the other day, I found Sabre here, passed out in the bathroom with blood all around her. I thought she might’ve been shot, so we rushed her to the hospital. Imagine my surprise to find out she hadn’t been shot but miscarried our baby. And do you know why she lost our baby, Joshua?”
Joshua stares at me in shock. When he doesn’t answer, I kick the table, causing one of the glasses to tip over. Anger courses through my veins.
“She lost my baby, because of that shit she witnessed with Santiago. That motherfucker shot at her and now you all want her to sit down and talk to his ass! You’ll be sending her to a certain death, and I can’t have that.”
Joshua drops his head. “Look man, I didn’t know about the bullshit Greg had going on with Eduardo or Sabre being pregnant. When she called earlier and I found out what Greg had done, I beat his ass. I couldn’t believe he did that shit. I should’ve known something was up when he started having an extra amount of cash flow. I was in the process of getting out of the game. I’d stacked my money and me and my girl was ready to get the fuck out of Chicago to start over somewhere new, opening up some legitimate businesses. I’m too old for this shit and if you stay in the game too long, you’ll find yourself in one of two places, either in jail or in the ground. Xander, just tell me Sabre’s okay. I know you and I have never seen eye to eye but at the end of the day, she is my baby sister, my only sister and I do care about her wellbeing,” his voice shakes as he peers at me.
My Father always told me you could always tell if a man is telling the truth by looking in their eyes and their body language. Shifty motherfuckers will never look you directly in the eyes, but an honest man will show you that they are being sincere. I can tell by the look in Joshua’s eyes and his body language, he’s being honest.
I go over to the recliner and sit, clasping my hands in front of me. “Sabre’s fine considering what she went through. She’s no longer in the city, I had her sent to a safe place until we can get this shit sorted out. Joshua, what’s Greg doing getting involved with someone like Santiago?”
“Greg’s young and loves the lifestyle. He wants to move on to the next level and that’s pushing heavy weight. I tried to convince him to give it up like me, but the money, women, and notoriety has gone to his head. He will do whatever to get to the top, even if it means handing over our sister. His ass has basically sold his soul to the devil.”
Zar moves closer. “You do know, they might go after your parents to get to Sabre.”
“Yeah, and I tried to explain that to them, but Greg has them brainwashed with all the money he has been throwing at them,” Joshua states. “He told them Santiago won’t fuck with them.”
I’m not surprised by that, it has always been about money with them.
“Where’s Greg at now?” I quiz.
“Honestly, I don’t know. I left him at my parent’s house after my dad kicked me out for putting hands on him. Knowing Greg, he’s probably sticking close to Eduardo for protection, now that he knows you’re probably looking for him.”
“What do you know about the Santiago Cartel wanting to move into our territory?” Zar asks, crossing his arms.
“There have been whispers in the streets about it, but no one takes them seriously. Everyone knows the Greeks run Chicago, so you would have to be a ballsy motherfucker to take them on,” Joshua confesses as he picks up the decanter, then pours himself another drink. “What’s surprising to me is I’m just now finding out you and your people are those same Greeks. Sabre never mentioned anything about you being a part of the Greek Mafia Family.”
I raise my brow. “That’s called loyalty. Excuse me for one second.”
He raises his glass before killing the liquor. I motion for Zar to follow me into the kitchen, leaving the others to keep an eye on Joshua. Hopefully, Alistair won’t shoot him while we’re gone.
“What are you thinking?” Zar asks, stopping in the middle of the room, crossing his arms.
