Resting my back against the counter as I tug at my beard, I reply, “He’s clean, it’s that fucking Greg.”

“What do you want to do about him?”

“He seemed pretty sincere about giving up the lifestyle, so I’m thinking we should offer him assistance on getting out of town,” I state.

“Are you sure you want to do that?” Zar inquires, tilting his head to the side.

I mull over his question then reply, “Yeah, I’m sure. Who knows, when this shit is over with, he might be the only family Sabre has left.”

“Well, let’s just hope this doesn’t come back to bite us in the ass.”

“It’ll be the worst fucking mistake of his life it does,” I return, pushing off from the counter, then leaving out of the kitchen.

Coming back into the living room, Hendrix and Frankie are sitting on the stools at the bar, drinking beers, while Alistair sits on the end of the couch, wiping his gun down as Joshua studies him.

“Joshua,” I call, getting his attention. “Are you serious about getting out of the game and if so where would you go?”

“Man, after the shit Greg pulled and what happened to Sabre, I’m done. Greg’s gonna mess around and get himself killed fucking with Eduardo. I love my little brother, but he’s going to have to get himself out of this mess. Right now, I just want to get my girl and get far away from this place because shit is about to be banana’s and I don’t want any part of it. My girl has family in Charlotte, North Carolina, so that’s where we’d go. I know you’ll make sure no harm will come to Sabre and I thank you for that, but the next time you talk to her, let her know I love her and to reach out to me when she can.”

“I will,” I agree. “Here’s the deal, I will help you get out of the city, but you will have to leave tomorrow. Be at O’Hare at noon and there will be a private jet to fly you and your lady to Charlotte.”

“Tomorrow is short notice. How am I going to get my shit together by then? What about my car?”

I shrug my shoulders. “You just said shit’s about to get crazy, so I’m giving you a way out sooner. Put your car in storage till this shit blows over, then come back and get it. You need to make a decision so we can get things in order. This will be the only time I make this offer.”

Joshua doesn’t take time to think over his decision as he quickly says, “We’ll be there. I appreciate this.” He stands, holding out his hand to me.

I look at it, then back at him before moving closer. Firmly grabbing his hand, I pull him closer to me with the table between us.

“I’m doing this because you didn’t have shit to do with Santiago and you genuinely care about you sister, but if you cross me in any way, I will not hesitate in putting a bullet in your fucking head. Please don’t make me regret showing you any kindness.”

We stare one another down before Joshua states, “You’ll get no trouble out of me. I just want to live a long and peaceful life.”

“Good,” I return, letting his hand go. “Oh, and another thing, don’t tell anyone about you leaving. Get rid of your cell phone and buy a prepaid one for now. Here’s my number.” I reach into my suit jacket and pull out one of my business cards, then hand it to him. “Call me in the morning around nine and I’ll have further instructions for you.”

“Cool,” he returns, shoving it into his pocket.

“Joshua, it’s imperative that you don’t tell anyone you’re leaving, not even your parents. You’ll have to be off the grid for a while if you don’t want these people to find you. Make sure your girl does the same, because if they can’t find you, they’ll be looking for her.”

He smiles. “That won’t be a problem. Nobody knows about me and Gina. She’s a good girl with a good head on her shoulders. Honestly, she’s the reason why I want to leave all this shit behind me. She makes me want to do better in life.”

“I’m happy for you,” I honestly say. I know how he feels because Sabre makes me feel the same way. “Alright then, well let’s get you back to her so the two of you can get your shit together for tomorrow.”

An hour later, Joshua’s girlfriend was rushing out of her front door when we dropped him off. Before we left, I reiterated to him what I told him at the condo. The less people know where they were at, the greater chances for them to survive this shit. Although Joshua and I may have had our differences in the past, I had to give him respect. He stood up to Alistair, not knowing his warped ass would kill him without any remorse, but most of all he showed he really cared about Sabre. I still think it was shitty they depended on her to save them every time but now hopefully he sees that he’s the big brother and starts to take his role seriously.

Zar drives while I’m on the phone first with Yiannis, letting him know I will need to use his jet again for Joshua and Gina’s departure. He doesn’t have a problem with it but he is going to have two of his guards fly with them. Next, I call Tech to have him hack into the airport’s computer system. I had him put Joshua and Gina’s info into the manifest for a flight on Southwest airlines leaving at two in the afternoon heading for Montego Bay, Jamaica. If Santiago’s looking for him, this will give Joshua enough time to board the jet and get to Charlotte undetected.

Finally, we arrived at Yiannis’ house. It’s late, so we expected him to be asleep and Sebastian to be back at his house, but that is not the case.

When we walk into the house we hear loud laughter coming from the game room. I glance over at Zar whose body is stiff as a board.

“Ah, shit,” Alistair exalts as he scurries to the game room. Seconds later, we hear him yell, “Yiorgos, Basil!”

Swiveling towards Zar, I ask, “You good?”

The side of his mouth turns up before he replies, “Never been better.”

I walk ahead of Zar, taking on my role as his Second in Command with Hendrix and Frankie behind him.
