Less than an hour later we were pulling onto her block in Oak Park. It’s a quiet residential neighborhood where everyone tends to their own business, but today, if anyone saw something they were going to tell me something or else.
Jeeves parks the SUV in front of Sabre’s one story house. Her car isn’t in the driveway, but maybe she was parked it in the back. I jump out with my gun to my side, not waiting to see who’s behind me. When she bought this house six years ago, I made sure she had a panic room installed in the main bedroom in case she got into some bullshit behind her brothers.
She laughed it off stating, “Really, Xander? I’m a realtor, what kind of shit could I possibly get into?”
And I told her, “To be honest, you never know, but it’s good to have one in place. You might have a disgruntled client who may think you might’ve overcharged him or some shit like that. So, like I said, you never know...you may have to use it but I pray you never have to.”
Please let her be here, I think to myself as I make it to the front door. Digging in my pocket, I pull out my key ring. I frantically find the key to her door, then insert it. Looking over my shoulder, I nod to Zar and the others who have their weapons drawn. Jeeves and the other men stand guard outside of the SUV Sebastian and Yiannis are in. Glancing at Zar, I dip my head three times while unlocking the door, then twist the knob and push the door in.
“Sabre,” I call, entering the living room with my gun raised. “Sabre!”
Zar and Alistair follow me as I head towards her bedroom, still calling her name. Hendrix, Frankie, Mike and the others split up to check on the other rooms.
Entering her bedroom, I slide my gun into the back of my pants, heading for her walk-in closet. Once inside I separate the clothes on the hangers, then push them to the sides, revealing the door to the panic room. Entering in the code, the door slides open.
“Sabre,” I yell as I enter, noticing the room is empty. “Fuck!”
“We’ll find her,” Alistair states.
“Yeah, come on let’s see if the guys found anything,” Zar adds.
Glancing around the room one last time, I follow them out, hoping she’s with the others. My spirits are crushed when we come back to the living room and the guys are standing around with no Sabre.
“She’s not here,” Mike informs.
“Shit,” I hiss.
“Xander, where else do you think she might go? Maybe her parents or somewhere,” Zar questions.
Running my hand down my face, I reply, “She may either be at her parents or my condo. She knows the access codes to get in.”
“Well, let’s start with the parents place and if she’s not there, then we’ll check your condo,” Zar instructs.
The sound of tires squealing catches our attention. I barrel out of the front door first to see Joshua, Greg, and two large Spanish men being held at gun point with their hands raised by Sebastian, Yiannis, Jeeves, and their other men.
“Where is she?” I growl, stalking towards them. “Where the fuck is Sabre?!”
Joshua scowls as he faces me. “Man, what the fuck are you doing in my sister house with all of these white boys? You’re probably the reason why we can’t find her!”
“Can’t find her? What the fuck do you mean can’t find her,” I sneer.
“That’s what the fuck I said. Are you fucking slow? Damn, I don’t know what my sister saw in your white boy wanna be gangster ass,” Joshua hurls back.
I advance towards him, but Zar stops me.
“First of all, motherfucker, I’m Greek! Second, you talk that wanna be gangster shit, but who are the assholes with guns pointed at them,” I challenge. “Now tell me what the hell you know or I will let the Heads of my family use all of your asses as target practice.”
“Who is thisputa,” the Spanish guy on Greg’s left mocks.
“Puta? Motherfucker, you don’t know me and if you know what’s best for you, you’d want to keep it that way,” I inform the asshole. He smirks at me, but I ignore his ass, turning my focus back to Joshua. “Where the fuck is she?”
Joshua grills me, but Greg speaks before he can. “Look, we don’t know where she is. She called me talking crazy, crying and shit. I called Josh and we went to see if she was at our folks, but she wasn’t so we came here.”
I let his words run through my head, then ask, “Sabre called me in the same manner, but what I’m trying to understand is...that was a while ago and if she called you too, then why has it taken this long for you to come to her house? Hell, I’m coming from Texas, what’s your excuse?”
Joshua snaps his head towards Greg.
Greg shrugs his shoulders. “She called me an hour ago and when I called Joshua about it, he wanted me to pick him up. Look, all I want to do is make sure my sister is straight.”
