Zar whispers in my ear, “We’re spending too much time going back and forth with these assholes. We know she’s not at her parents, the only other option is your condo. Let these motherfuckers go and we’ll head there.”

As he steps back, I tell Joshua, “She’s not here, but if you find her before I do, tell her to call me.”

Joshua lowers his hands. “When I find her, I doubt I’ll be telling her that since you was the same motherfucker who was trying to take her from her family.”

I don’t even respond as they head back to their vehicle. The Spanish guy with the mouth says something to the other as they stare me down, then get in the SUV. We stand guard as they pull away, mean mugging us. Pussies.

“Let’s go,” I say once they’re off the block.

We jump back into the SUVs, making our way to my condo downtown.

Almost an hour later, we were pulling up to my condo building that overlooks Navy Pier and Lake Michigan. I don’t even bother stopping at the front desk as we go straight to the elevator that takes us up to the eleventh floor where my condo is located.

When the elevator doors open, my heart sinks as I stare down at the dried blood droplets on the floor.

“What the fuck?” I roar, removing my gun from its holster.

Running out, I follow the blood trail that seems to get heavier the closer I get to my condo. The same condo Sabre sold to me.

The trail ends in front of my door. There is no knob for the door, but there is smeared blood on the code panel.

Behind me, I hear guns being cocked as I enter the code, then push the door open.

“Sabre,” I call, darting to the living room. It’s empty.

“Xander look, the bloods leading to the hallway,” Alistair points out.

I sprint down the hall, passing the guest bedrooms, then come to a sudden halt outside of the bathroom.

“Sabre, baby,” I cry as I see her sprawled out on the bathroom floor in a pool of blood with her dress covered in it too.

Everything seems to move in slow motion as I step inside with the men filling the space of the large bathroom with me. I bend down to check her pulse. She still has one but it’s faint. Scooping her up, I tell Zar, “We need to get her to the hospital right now.”

He nods as the others clear a path.

“Here’s the reason why you couldn’t get back in touch with her or track her,” Mike says, lifting the toilet seat, then reaching in and retrieving Sabre’s cell phone.

I don’t know what the fuck is going on, but as soon I find out what happened to Sabre, somebody is going to have to answer some fucking questions. But for right now I have to make sure my woman is going to be alright.

When we get Sabre to Rush hospital, I carry her in through the emergency doors. One look at her blood soaked clothes and mine, the staff thinks something is wrong with the both of us. I tell them it isn’t my blood but Sabre’s. They place her on a gurney, then start wheeling her to the back with four nurses and a doctor begin to take care of her.

I try to follow but a male nurse stops me.

“I’m sorry sir, but you can’t go back there.”

“The hell I can’t. Who’s going to stop me?”

He goes to put his hand on my chest to keep me from advancing, but I snatch his wrist about to twist that motherfucker off when Zar takes hold of my hand.

“Don’t do this, Xander. This will only guarantee they will ban you from here and you don’t want that. Let him go. We’ll wait for the doctor to come out and tell us what’s going on.”

Rage and the unknown feeling of what is wrong with Sabre consumes me. I know Zar is right but who is this asshole to tell me I can’t be with her? As much as I want to break every bone in his body, I release his wrist.

“Sir I know you’re upset but I promise we’ll make sure she gets the best care. One of the nurses will be out shortly to let you know what’s going on,” he says.

I wave him off. At this moment, his words don’t mean shit to me.

“Come on Xander, the only thing we can do now is just sit and wait. I’m sure everything will be fine, come on,” Yiannis says as he places his hand on my shoulder, then leads me to the seats in the waiting area.
