GeeGee, Principal Cason, and I, gasp at the same time. Who says that about their own child?

I shake my head. “Wow, it’s a shame you think that. Tell me, how can a ten year old seduce a grown man?”

“I don’t know, but you did and if that’s what Devyn’s saying too, then you’ve coached her to say it,” she replies.

Principal Cason comes from around his desk. “Mrs. Kourakos, may I take a look at the file?”

“Absolutely,” I answered, giving it to him.

As he looks at the documents, momma whispers to me, “You and that white boy are going to wish you hadn’t fucked with Andre. That principal may not let me take her now, but you better believe we’re coming for her.”

Giving her a daring smile, I tell her, “My husband is Greek, and you and that nasty bastard you have can try, but you’ll only find yourselves in a world of shit. Devyn is safe and happy, and if you think I’m going to let you jeopardize that, then you must be smoking some of Andre’s supply.”

Principal Cason clears his throat, interrupting us. “I’m sorry Mrs. Varner, but these documents are legally binding. I cannot let you take Devyn, and honestly, from what I just read and heard, I don’t think I would, even if they weren’t.”

The man who has been quiet this whole time starts towards Principal Cason, but Alistair stops him.

“I wouldn’t do that if I were you.”

I look back at him, and he is using GeeGee as a shield, from Principal Cason, as he moves his suit jacket to the side, showing the butt of his pistol under his arm.

“We’re done here. Μικρ? αδελφ? (little sister) let’s go.”

Devyn leaves GeeGee and takes his hand. She doesn’t look back at momma as they leave the office.

“Devyn! Devyn,” momma hollers, but it falls on deaf ears as Alistair holds her close to him as they walk down the hallway.

Turning back to Principal Cason, I tell him, “Thank you”

“No problem,” he returns with a kind smile, handing me back the file.

“Hailey,” momma calls.

GeeGee tugs my arm. “Go catch up with them. I’LL be behind you. I want one of these idiots to try something. They don’t want me going in my purse.”

I held in my giggle, because she reminded me of Tyler Perry’s character Madea at that moment.

Hoping to convince my momma one last time to let Devyn be, I say to her, “Look, I’m asking you, no I’m begging you, let Devyn have a life where she is safe and around people that love her. She deserves that after what Andre has put her through.”

“And you think I don’t love her,” momma snarls.

“I didn’t say that, but I think you love your lifestyle and what Andre does for you more. Even if it means sacrificing your daughters to have it,” I honestly state, before turning my back to her, and exiting the office.

“We’re coming for Devyn,” momma yells. “You’re not going to fuck this up for me!”

I fight back the tears that want to fall. No, I won’t shed one for her. I have to be strong for Devyn. I know they aren’t going to let this go. I will be the shield that protects her, and they will have to go through me to get her; not to mention the crazy Greek who will stop at nothing to ensure Devyn never returns to Atlanta.
