Page 39 of Where We Fall

When she sees me, her face lights up.

"Hey Marcus," she says as she walks past me.

I can't get any words out quickly enough, but my head automatically turns and follows her as she walks away. Her ass is swaying in her tight skirt. And she has lipstick on again. Red this time.

I want to know what that damn red looks like all over my dick. I bet it would stain my skin for days. My dick twitches in my pants just thinking about it.

Fuck! This isn't good.

I walk into my office and slam the mug on my desk. Hot coffee spills over onto my desk, but I just fall into my chair and lean my head back. I've literally seen her for three seconds and I'm already hard.

When I hear heels clicking on the floor, getting louder with every step, I lift my head. She appears again, walking past my room with a smile and wink this time.

Who the hell is this woman?

Lexi has somehow turned into the boldest, sexiest woman I've ever met, and I've turned into a stuttering mess of a man.

The roles have never been reversed on me like this before. I'm completely out of my element.

A knock on the door breaks me from my own personal crisis.

"I have the Peterson contract that you wanted to look over before it went out," Luke says as he holds up a folder.

"Sounds good. Just leave it on my desk. I'll get to it before lunch."

Luke tosses it on the corner of my desk then takes a seat.

"You alright? You seem a bit on edge."

I crane my neck to the left to try and work out some of the tension.

"I'm fine. I guess the whole thing with William made me a bit more tense than I realized."

"Lexi did a good job. She really pulled through for us."

"Yeah," I reply stiffly. "Lexi was amazing."

As thankful as I am for her helping, what I really would've appreciated was my brother's support. They never once told me that we shouldn't be in this position, that I'm not at fault here. Nor did it ever occur to them to not go through this charade and just stick up to William.

I know he's a major part of our business, but do we want to set a precedent that he can walk all over us?

I don't know. Even if we did go through with it, even if we did need to please the guy, some moral support that it's bullshit and that I'm a good guy would've gone a long way with me.

"Speaking of Lexi, she's working on that new configuration to have all of our orders go through an approval process. She needs one of us to go through the testing with her to make sure we are all squared away and like the final result. I figured you could jump on that."

"Yeah, sure. Just tell her to send me a meeting invite."

One-on-one time with Lexi is the last thing that I need, but what can I say?

"Got it. I'll let her know. Catch ya later."

He walks out of the office, leaving me to wonder what I did to deserve this continuous stream of bad luck. In the span of a year, I've only needed to work solo with Lexi maybe two times. Now, two days after she blew my mind and my dick, I'm told I need to be in a room alone with her.

Chapter Thirteen

Lexi

Hedoesn'tknowhowto act around me. This morning I walked by him and winked, trying to play it cool, and I was surprised that he didn't say anything to me. It almost made me laugh to see his jaw-dropping stare. I feel like a whole new woman after Saturday night.
