Daddy is a tease and a mean man, he didn’t give me time to think. I wanted to sound like an intellectual with sophisticated words, but he’s got me trapped in a limbo of drunken stupor.
“Don’t break that promise, little girl, or I will punish you.”
Chapter Six
Leon
Once I make a choice, I have never gone back on my words.
Somehow this tiny girl with a mop of black hair and glassy blue eyes ask to keep the original schedule on our wedding, and I caved to her big doe-eyes.
I don’t see the harm of letting it go her way as cramming this big wedding on one day would be near damn impossible.
I have a feeling it’s the girl on the computer had something to do with Mina’s request. That woman, the heiress of Ennis, had been calling through an internet connection for hours before I let Mina pick up the call.
There is no privacy in their conversation as I have Mina sitting in my lap, I listen in with little interest to the latest gossip and what dress the bride’s maid should wear.
“I’m taking karate classes,” the woman on the monitor comments offhandedly.
Mina’s head tilts under my chin, “Good for you?”
“I have been leveling up.”
“Are you preparing for your quest to save the world and fight some dragons in the journey?” Mina jokes, giggling softly behind her hand.
“Well,” the computer changes some pitch of the heiress’ voice, “You are the purest princess in my heart.”
I glare over Mina’s head, burning holes into the woman’s smug face when my little girl makes a confused noise. Her not-so-subtle hint about this ‘rescue’ doesn’t fly over my intelligence, but Mina has no idea about the implication underneath those easy words.
“I am?” Mina leans forward, my steel hold around her waist prevents her from moving further to the computer as it will damage her eyes in long term use.
“Always been,” the woman agrees with a twirl of her hair, “Oh, right. Do you still have the book about a boy creating magic with an orange pen?”
Mina nods, “Yeah, why?”
“Can I see it?”
Her blue eyes turn back to me, wide and innocently happy as she waist for my permission. Our bedroom is filled with her book on a wall shelf made just for them, and it’s right next door to this second office. I have two offices, and this one is used for convenience when I have to get to the computers quicker.
The woman’s face remains passive, narrowing her almond eyes for a brief second to let me understand the message. I pat Mina’s ass and she jumps off my lap, she stands there with a look of expectancy lacing in her excited little bounces on her heels.
“Come right back,” I tell her, turning the chair for her to run out from between my legs and into the adjoining master bedroom.
I switch my focus back to the heiress, “What.”
“I got an invitation,” she said.
My peripheral vision picks up Mina’s small form zooming to the other side as there are two bookshelves for all the books she read, is reading, and will read in the near future. She can’t let go of old books, they have been with her for so long that they have memories as sentimental values.
“I have not sent one.” the wedding invitation is supposed to be sent out to the Ennis family today.
“It’s addressed to Mina.” the heiress waves the letter encased in an envelope through the screen.
I sit up straighter, my attention becomes tunneled vision. “What’s the content?”
“Marriage proposal.”
My jaw snaps, baring my teeth in anger and wrath engulfs me in a blanket of sin as I imagine strangling the invitation owner with my bare hands. The fool has the audacity to ask my little girl for her hand in marriage, and I don’t care if they knew about me taking in Mina, but this bizarre news is a bit odd.
