I nod my head. “But only if you agree to talk things through with me, when you need to.”
He pulls his hands from mine and gets to his feet, coming around the table and standing beside me. I look up and he offers me his hand again, this time pulling me to my feet and into his arms. “I’ll tell you everything.” He kisses the tip of my nose. “No secrets, remember?”
I smile, nodding my head, and he places his hands on my denim-clad ass, pulling me close to him, so I can feel his arousal.
“Wearing clothes is very over-rated, you know?”
“Hmm… but what if someone comes over?”
He bends, brushing his lips against mine. “There’s no rule that says we have to answer the door.”
He has a point, and I tilt my head back as he deepens the kiss. I’m not wearing any underwear and he squeezes me, groaning into my mouth, just as someone knocks on the door.
I pull back, smiling. “You see? This is why we wear clothes.”
“Maybe. But you’ll need to see who it is.”
“I will?”
“Yeah. I’ve got a raging hard-on, so I think I’d better sit down and do my best to disguise it, don’t you?”
I giggle, unable to help myself, and we leave the dishes on the table, wandering into the living room. Drew sits on one of the blue chairs, pulling down his t-shirt to hide the bulge in the front of his jeans, and I wander to the front door, opening it to find Hunter and Livia standing there, his arm around her shoulders.
“Sorry. Did we disturb something?” Hunter says.
“No.” I smile.
“Yes.” Drew’s reply comes out at the same time as mine and I turn, narrowing my eyes at him.
Hunter laughs and I look back at him, noticing the slight blush on Livia’s cheeks. It’s the first time I’ve seen her since we met at the hospital, and she smiles at me, rolling her eyes.
“Don’t worry. They’re always like this.”
I can’t help smiling myself because at least Drew is doing something in character… something recognizable. And that’s got to be good.
I step back, letting them into the cottage, and I close the door, offering them a seat on the couch. They accept, sitting side-by-side, and I move past Drew, heading for the other chair. He grabs my hand, though, pulling me down onto his lap and holding me tight against him. I can feel his arousal pressingin to me, and a blush creeps up my cheeks, although he stares across at his brother, unfazed.
Hunter is grinning broadly, his arm around Livia. “This feels odd, but I guess I should introduce you.” He smiles at Livia and then turns back to Drew. “This is my wife, Livia.”
“It’s nice to meet you,” Drew says. “Although I guess this isn’t the first time.”
“No, it’s not,” Livia says, smiling.
“We didn’t come over just to make introductions,” Hunter says. “And I’m sorry for disturbing your morning, but we wanted to tell you our news…” He glances at me, just for a second, something like sympathy in his eyes, and I know what he’s going to say, even before he announces, “Livia’s pregnant.”
I feel the tug of anguish deep inside me, and while I should be getting used to it by now, I’m not sure I ever will. Drew holds me tighter, maybe sensing my distress, although he doesn’t say a word. He doesn’t need to.
Livia looks directly at me. “I’m sorry,” she says. “This must be the last thing you wanted to hear.”
“No. Not at all. I’m pleased for you. Truly, I am.” I just wish it didn’t have to hurt so much.
“We only found out this morning,” Hunter says. “And I know it might seem that we’re telling you really early, but…”
“You’ve wanted this for a long time,” Drew says, finishing his brother’s sentence and we all look at him, even though I have to twist on his lap to do so.
“Yes,” Hunter replies. “How did you know?”
“You mentioned to Drew that you and Livia had talked about having children,” I say. “He’s probably thinking of that.”
