My?

Wait. What did that mean?

“Craig’s at the office, tracking down some information on Wyatt’s movements over the last week, and needs a hand.” He didn’t loosen his grip on me, although the smile faded a little with each word. “Will you be here when I get back?”

Get back?

Jayce, stop repeating everything he’s saying.

“I don’t know how long we’ll be at Mosaic.”

“Call me if you uncover anything or need my help.” He pressed another kiss to my temple and let go of me. On his way to the door, he took my hand and I ambled the few steps at his side. “Or whenever you’re done. No leaving town without a goodbye.”

I blew a raspberry.Classy, Jayce. “I’m not leaving town without a few more of those orgasms.”

“Happy to oblige.” He turned the door handle, but gave me a quick peck on the lips before opening it. “And you have to try my Beef Wellington.”

“Now you’re speaking my language.”

“Good.” He winked and swung open the door.

Emmett stood there, fist raised to knock.Shit.He didn’t budge, but as he took in my robe and Drew’s open neckline and undone tie, a grin slid up his face. “Good evening?”

“Wonderful evening.” Drew kissed my forehead and clapped Emmett on the shoulder as he slipped out.

I turned on my heel and made my way into the room as elegantly as possible. Elegant still wasn’t my strong suit, especially with the injured leg.

“How’s your knee?” asked Emmett in a sing-song voice. “Work out the kinks?”

“Screw off.” I plopped onto the bed and grabbed my brace.

He laughed. “Took you two long enough.”

We were not about to discuss my love—or whatever that was—life. “Why are you here?”

Emmett plucked my logic puzzle book off the floor and laid it on the table next to the pencil. “Scarlett got a call from Noah.”

“Noah?” I hauled the brace up over my leg, situating the hole over my kneecap.

“He says they didn’t need the entire huma bird, so he’s offered it up to us.”

Pulling one of the brace’s Velcro straps taut, I flexed and straightened my knee, searching for the perfect fit. “Sounds suspect.”

Emmett shrugged. “Maybe he’s still got a bit of the recovery agent in him. Or maybe Fenix really believes they’re the altruistic types.”

“Despite all the kidnappings and beatings?”

Emmett’s nostrils flared. He’d been on the wrong end of both of those things earlier this year. “She took the call in private, so I don’t know everything they said. But her gut says this isn’t a setup.”

And we always trusted Scarlett’s gut.

“What’s our play?”

“You remember that antique shop you were casing after…” He gestured vaguely over his shoulder toward the door.

After I’d run off from Drew’s the first time, he meant. “Yes.”

“That’s where it is.” He sank into the chair by the side table. “Noah said a guy who worked there extracted what they needed, then he left it for us. Since you’re familiar with the place, the two of us are going to check it out.”
