Right when I felt him release, I bit down as hard I could on his neck until I tasted blood. I wanted to gag, but I held it in. Chase growled and I heard howls echoing around. I wonder if the pack welcomed Christmas in with a bang too. Chase flipped us over and pounded into me just how my body craved. He was growling and howling with the pack.

When I came back down to myself several hours later, I asked, “Do you all howl and growl all the time on Christmas?” Chase chuckled, “No, it was about us. Their Alpha and Luna are marked. They were celebrating.” I said, “Huh, interesting. I thought you had some morning Christmas banging tradition.” Chase smirked, “I take it back. It’s that. It’s definitely that.” My stomach growled. Chase said, “Let’s get you some lunch. I’ll meet you downstairs.” I nodded.

Once he left, I got up and swayed on feet. Shit. I thought I was over that. I quickly ran and threw up in the toilet. I used his god awful smelling mouthwash again and brushed my teeth. I went into the closet and grabbed a red turtleneck and black pleather leggings. I put on fuzzy socks and went downstairs.

I smiled when I saw Heath standing there talking to Chase. I squealed, “Merry Christmas, Heath!” I ran him and he twirled me around. When he set me down, I swayed. He gripped my arms to steady me. Chase asked, “Lexi?” I waved dismissively, “I’m just dizzy. I’m sure it’s aftereffects of it all.” Heath frowned, “I’m sorry.” I laughed, “Nonsense. Don’t apologize. I probably just need to eat.”

I inhaled and my eyes widened in delight. I asked, “Is that bacon I smell?” I ran into the kitchen. Sally smiled, “Help yourself.” I warned her, “You might regret that.” I ate all the bacon that was out in a matter of minutes. Heath chuckled, “She did warn you, Sally.”

Chase gaped at me and I blushed. I stammered, “Sally’s bacon is really good.” Sally laughed, “Who could blame you? I have more.” Heath agreed, “Seriously, no one could blame you her bacon is famous.” It really was in the Shroud.

We went into the living room. Nadine asked, “Would you like a mimosa?” I laughed, “Normally, yes. I’d be all over that. After yesterday I’m giving my stomach a minute.” Nadine said, “Fair enough.” Chase and Heath grabbed beers. When they opened them, I had to bite back my gag. They walked out to go watch basketball with the rest of the guys in the den.

Sally asked me, “Lex, are you ok?” I admitted, “I’m just a little out of sorts still. That fairy charm is no joke.” Reagan snorted, “I don’t doubt it.” Sally said, “Haley was really worried when Ted told her why he wanted it done. Plus, she’d only read about the charm. She might not have understood all the side effects.” I shrugged, “I’ll be fine. I’m feeling much better now that I’ve had food.”

We all filtered to the table once Sally announced the food was ready. Heath and Chase sat on each side of me at the table. Heath left after lunch saying he had work. I grabbed his hand, “Heath, don’t work too hard please.”

He told me, “After New Year’s, we need to talk about meeting with those people.” I sighed, “Do we have to?” Heath snorted, “I think we should.” I agreed, “Fine. You pick a day and I’ll be there with Chase.” Heath nodded, “Alright. I’ll let you know.”

Chase and I spend the rest of the day cuddled together with his family. When they got to presents, I groaned, “Oh shoot. I need to run to my house and everyone’s gifts.” I flashed out and made it to my house in record time. I had to sit down for a minute because I got dizzy again.

When I was ok I ran upstairs. I snagged my birth control and took it with water. I retrieved all the presents and ran back. Chase pulled me to him the second I walked in the door. He said, “I was about to come get you.” I dumped out the presents.

Susie squealed, “Can I go first?” Everyone laughed. Frank cooed, “Of course you can, Princess.” I smiled. I really wish Heath could’ve stayed. Chase wrapped his arms around me and pulled me into him. I snuggled into his chest feeling complete.

Bury the Hatchet

Chase stared at Heath waiting for him to answer. I started making mental plans myself. Finally, Heath said, “They agreed to meet in two hours to give her back. I didn’t get much information before he hung up.” I questioned, “Did he say he was your father?” Heath admitted, “No, he sounded just like him though. He…. he said I should do a better job of protecting her. I... hearing his voice. I couldn’t really talk.”

I growled, “What the hell?! They don’t get to say that! First of all, that’s our thing.” A few people snickered. I continued, “Second, YOU? YOU have to protect her better?! What the fuck have they been doing? You’ve been watching out for her forever. We have been trying to protect her together for fuck’s sake. Protect her better, they can’t say that! Where the fuck have they been?”

I turned to Kevin, “EXPLAIN, NOW! How did this happen?” Kevin hung his head, “It was my fault. She was out of it, and I should’ve called it off.” Heath questioned, “Out of it?” Kevin explained, “She said she was tired.” That didn’t make sense.

I frowned, “She slept the entire plane ride home.” Kevin said, “At the last place she almost fell off the building.” I growled and shoved him against the wall. I said, “If you so much as imply you didn’t get there to help her….”

Kyler spoke, “We were out of the car as soon as she closed her eyes. Kevin told her to jump down, but she said no. We made sure she got inside, and we were heading into the building.” I let go of Kevin. He smoothed his shirt down. My dad linked me, “There’s probably some calm left in your pinky toe, just hang onto that. You did crack a joke a second ago.” I didn’t though, what I said about her family and Heath was true.

Kincade walked into the building. He looked at both his brothers. He asked, “Kevin?” Kevin gritted out, “I failed. I’m sorry brother and I’m sorry, Alpha.” My dad said, “You didn’t fail. Tell us the rest of what happened.”

Kevin nodded, “Kyler and I followed her inside like he said. We should’ve gone the way she went in, that’s what we should’ve done. We were attacked from behind. They had no scent. I don't even know where they came from. Kyler went down first, and when I turned around I got hit in the head with a bat. I saw Noah smiling with two warlocks who started to chant. That’s the last thing I remember until I woke up back here. Someone in that building was dead though. I think Lexi threw up.”

Heath snorted, “Multiple times by the looks of it.” I frowned, “She’s seen dead bodies before.” Heath commented, “The Hood members that were there said she was drugged.” Ted appeared out of nowhere. He groaned, “Oh no.” Heath responded, “Oh yes.” I surmised, “So the fairy charm was triggered. She’s sick because she was drugged.”

Heath said, “Yes, but I’m guessing Noah and company didn’t know why she was sick. I know whoever I spoke to on the phone that has her thought she was having a reaction to a drug. Or that the warlock’s fucked up some spell.”

I growled, “Noah would’ve had her.” Heath disagreed, “I was minutes away, and she knew I was coming. He wouldn't have gotten her. She texted me the minute she found the dead man.” I rubbed my face, “Her fingerprints will be all over the scene.” Heath scoffed, “No, they won’t. Ask your men who found your warriors what they found.”

I looked at Matt. He reported, “No one else was there when we got there. It was so clean, it was crazy.” Heath sounded annoyed, “They were very efficient.” I cautioned, “I hope you aren't hoping for a happy family reunion. I’ll try to stop myself from killing your dad, but I make no promises.” Heath snorted, “I’ll kill him first. He DARED to tell me to protect my sister better. Where has he been?! I’ve been raising both of us. I wasn't perfect, but I love her. I would die for her!” I had said some of that earlier. Bolt snickered, “Look at that, he listens to us.” I’d take it.

I said, “I am aware. It’s your one redeeming quality in my eyes.” Heath snorted. My dad groaned, “Son.” I retorted, “What? He wants to take her from me! He has hated me from the very moment he met me. My mate is MISSING! Am I supposed to be nice?!” My dad replied, “From what I hear, you weren’t being nice to anyone well before Lexi was missing.” I growled, “One person. I wasn’t nice to ONE person who has been a BITCH to me for months. Where is everyone at telling her she’s not nice? Nowhere. I retaliate after MONTHS of bullshit and everyone is on my case.” My dad shot me a look.

Kincade interrupted, “How do we get the Luna back?” Heath answered, “We are meeting near a place Lexi and I go to.” I knew exactly the place he meant. I said, “Let’s get going then.” Kevin stood, “We are coming with you.”

The pack doctor frowned. He linked me, “Alpha, that’s not a good idea.” Before I could veto that their brother did. Kincade said, “You are not. Rest and heal.” Kyler argued, “We are fine, Kincade. We can do this.” The pack doctor chimed in, “You are not fine. You are still drowsy from the spell, and you both have concussions. Your wolves are still healing you.”

Kevin tried a new tactic, “She was our responsibility. We need to be part of bringing her home Kincade.” All wolves could understand that. Kincade’s jaw locked then he said, “If you just had the concussion, I’d bring you both. You need to recover from the spell. Mom is coming over with Kayla and Karlee with soup. Kayla made it for both. You wouldn’t want to upset our little sisters, would you?” I knew that answer. Both frowned at him.

I said, “You two stay and get rested. I’m sure Heath will agree you all can be closer on her next mission. Won’t you, Heath? This wouldn’t have happened had they been with her.” Heath snorted, “Sure, I’m your problem there. Lexi won’t have a single problem with that.”
