Me:Count on it.

Chase was not happy when he found out Kincade was not on my protection detail. Kyler and Kevin would be fine. We were breaking in a few places and downloading some information. Kincade wasn’t really needed. They couldn’t come inside anyway. I kissed Chase goodbye and flashed to my house.

Ted squealed as soon as I shut the front door, “Show me! Show me! Show me!” I turned my head. I asked, “Where’s Sally?” Ted waved dismissively, “I just texted her. She’ll be here any second. Yours is just like ours. Not as big as the wolves get, but I love it!” I agreed, “Me too.”

I punched Ted in the arm as Sally walked in. Ted yelled, “OW! What was that for?” I answered, “For downplaying everything about being marked. I passed out from exhaustion afterwards. Then I turned into a nymphomaniac. I could barely keep my hands off him.” Ted scoffed, “Like you were keeping your hands off him before he marked you? Girl, you climbed Chase mountain ALL the time. Trust me, I know this is true. Everyone heard you when you stayed at his place. Sometimes even yours if you were outside or forgot to close the door.” Sally laughed.

Eventually adding, “Derrick said being marked by an Alpha is different.” Ted pointed his index finger in my face, “HA! See? It’s not my fault.” I yawned. Ted frowned asking, “Didn’t you just spend a whole getaway getting rested?” I raised an eyebrow, “If by that you mean getting fucked, then yes. I did lots of that.”

Ted whistled, “Get it! Get it girl!” I laughed, “Oh I did. Everywhere. We christened that house, let me tell you.” I rubbed my chest with my hand in a circle. Sally asked, “Are you ok?” I assured her, “I’m fine, it just feels odd.” Ted said, “Chase is getting further away, that’s probably what you feel.” That made no sense. I sighed, “Alright give me the file.”

I ran through it. I was going to be two hours away working myself back to this area. I had four places to hit. That wasn’t bad. I ran upstairs to change. I grabbed the doorknob to the bathroom because I was dizzy. Whoa.

Ted came up behind me, “Lexi?” I explained, “Head rush. I haven’t used my speed for a few days.” Ted studied me, “Maybe you should stay home. I can get Heath to….” I cut him off, “No, I’m fine.” I closed the door on him and turned on the shower. I took a few deep breaths then turned the water to cold.

I scolded myself, “Wake up, Lexi. You can do this.” I shivered and got out of the shower. I grabbed black yoga pants and a skintight long sleeved black shirt. When I went back downstairs, I didn’t get dizzy. I smiled, “See? I’m fine.” Both Ted and Sally exchanged a worried glance. I hugged them both and walked outside.

I handed the file to Kevin explaining, “We are going to these addresses.” He studied it then nodded, handing it back to me. I added, “It shouldn’t be complicated.” We got in our cars. They followed at a respectable distance.

I started to get hot. I turned the air conditioning on full blast, and I was still sweating. What the hell? When we got to the first place I didn’t get out of my car for several moments. What was wrong with me? My phone rang. It was Kevin. Shit.

I answered, “Hi, Kevin.”. Kevin asked, “Luna, are you alright?” I tried to tease him but it came out lame and I knew it, “Kevin, we have been through this. It’s Lexi. I’m just thinking of the best way to tackle getting inside.”

Kevin didn’t say anything for a minute. He replied, “I’m no expert, but the open window on the second floor seems like a given.” I looked up. Crap. That was really obvious. Kevin asked, “What’s really going on? If you’d been looking at the building you’d have known that.” I admitted, “Honestly, I’m just really tired.” I was. I felt like I’d been hit by a Mack truck.

Kevin pressed, “Are you sure you want to do this?” I repeated, “I’m fine.” Kevin sighed, “Ok. When you get outside if everything is fine tuck your hair behind your left ear. If something is wrong don’t tuck your hair back. We will move in if you don’t.” I agreed, “Alright.” We hung up.

I took a deep breath and got out of my car, scaled the building, and got inside the second story window. I went up to the fourth floor and the smell of the cleaning supplies made me gag. I took a deep breath and went to the office I needed.

Why the hell did they have industrial strength cleaning supplies? I was ready to open a window when the computer beeped letting me know that I had all the information. I could feel Chase's concern. Great. He was probably worried because I gagged over a smell. Get it together, Lexi.

I made my way back outside and tucked my hair behind my ear. I saw Kevin was on his phone. I shot him a look I hope conveyed I was sorry because I knew it was Chase. I got in my car and immediately started sweating.

It was time for a pep talk to myself, “Ok body, we are not in the Virgin Islands anymore. It’s cold here. Normal people do NOT have the air conditioning on in December in Tennessee.” Despite my pep talk I was still sweating. I resigned myself to turning on the air conditioning full blast the rest of the night.

I drove to the next place and parked. I was going to be sick. I grabbed the bag out of my door and threw up into it. Thank god Kevin was behind me unable to see that. The lack of sleep was catching up to me. I got out of the car and saw Kevin on the phone again.

Oh god. Could Chase really tell I’d just gotten sick? I wondered what it felt like. I could feel him in my chest, but not as easy to decipher at the moment. Once I’d asked Bjourn to tell me about their bond. I knew this wasn’t how the Hackura could feel their family members. It was clearer to them the emotion they felt. If we had a Hackura bond Chase would know I’d thrown up.

I threw the bag into the trash and broke into the target premises. That was a strong choice of words. The door was open and I walked in. I downloaded everything and flashed back to my car. Thank god there were no cleaning supplies in that place. I blasted the air into my face. I sighed realizing I probably needed to eat. That had to the be the problem.

I went through the McDonald’s drive through. I was literally salivating over their fries. This is the level of hunger I’d let myself reach. I ate quickly and parked at the next place. I felt much better after eating. Everything went smoothly.

We were back in Chase’s territory for the last target. I had to climb a tree and jump to a ledge. I looked down and swayed. I held on tightly. I must have stayed there longer than I thought because I heard Kevin call, “Drop down, Lexi. I’ll catch you.” I gritted my teeth, “I’m fine.” I managed to get into the window. Kevin didn’t sound like he believed me, “Ok, be careful.” I took a deep breath. I made my way to the top floor.

A horrid smell hit my nose. I couldn’t stop myself from vomiting. I heard Kevin yell, “We are coming in!” My legs were shaking because I knew that smell. It was death. I walked inside and saw the man, whose office I was supposed to get information from, was very dead. I went back and cleaned my fingerprints off the toilet.

I sent out a notification to Heath. I quickly downloaded the information from the computer. Wait, why weren’t Kevin and Kyler in here yet? I heard a laugh, “Always the dutiful soldier.” My heart stopped. I turned, “Trolls aren’t supposed to be out on holidays.” Haley had told me that when we spent New Years Eve together the second year. It’s why it made sense to her I was available and cemented her belief he was one. He sneered at me, and I realized he wasn’t alone. Coward. He was with four warlocks.

Noah said, “Your protection isn’t coming to save you.” Anger hit me, “If you killed them….” He interrupted “They aren’t dead.” I sighed in relief. The warlocks started chanting. They all stared at me in confusion when nothing happened. Noah hissed, “Why isn’t it working?” I tried to sound bored, “You’ll need to be more specific.” Noah shouted, “You should be unconscious!”

I laughed then pulled a necklace Haley had given me from beneath my shirt. I clicked my tongue taunting, “You tend to forget who my best friend is.” Noah shouted, “You mean the stupid girl you consider your little sister.” I smiled politely, “Other than she’s not stupid and she’s a woman. Yes, that is who I mean.” One warlock said, “No matter.” He threw a powder in my face and I instantly gagged.

Noah grabbed me and I didn’t even feel remotely sorry when I threw up on him. He let me go in disgust. He yelled, “What the hell did you do to her?” The warlock frowned, “Nothing! It’s just drugs in powder form.” I laughed, unable to help it. Haley and Ted’s spell was kicking in.

I threw up on the warlocks next. All of them were now gagging. One actually threw up too. If I didn’t feel like I was dying, it would’ve been really funny. Noah yelled, “SHE HAS A TAIL?! WHAT THE FUCK DID YOU MORONS DO TO HER?” I laughed again, but it sounded painful even to my ears.

Noah bent to pick me up, and I wondered if my tail could hurt him. He hissed and I saw my tail in fact had a point and it sliced Noah’s arm. I cackled, threw up on his shoes, then groaned in pain. Noah’s phone rang. He answered yelling, “I don’t care if Heath is coming! We can't get out yet. She’s throwing up all over us! NO! She’s mine, and I'm not leaving without her.”
