I admitted, “I know that. I’m glad you seem to remember that little fact.” Jessica argued, “It’s not little, it’s huge. I hated that I couldn’t give Harold a pup. I was actually gathering information for a surrogate with a donor egg with Cassandra’s help when Haley came into our lives.”
I speculated, “I don’t think Alpha Harold would’ve been cool with that.” Jessica snorted, “He wasn’t thrilled when he found all the research the other day.” I asked, “You still had it?” Jessica cringed admitting, “Honestly, I’d forgotten all about it. I was going to talk to him about it the night we met Haley. Things happened so quickly from there. I forgot all about it until he threw the folder on our bed one week ago asking what it was.”
She rubbed her face, “It was the metaphorical slap I needed. I realized what I’d done. Sometimes around Cassandra it’s so easy to get wrapped up in what she says. She just sounds right. It seemed unreasonable Haley was so upset over this trivial thing.” I started to speak but she held her hands up.
She explained, “I know now, it’s not trivial. It’s big. Harold told me about her reaction when Eric was shot. He said knowing Eric was down with a bullet laced with silver and wolfsbane was killing him. Then when he heard Haley wail. He said he couldn’t hold back his sobs. Haley can’t live without Eric. I knew that she would die if he did because they are twice light bound. I guess in some way I’d heard Cassandra say she has fairy tendencies so much I just passed judgement on her for her feelings with Eric not being like Harold’s and mine. I know I’m wrong. She loves him.” I said, “More than you could ever know.”
Jessica was quiet for several moments. She told me, “I am going to try to be her friend.” I said, “That’s all good and fine. I’ll believe it when Cassandra comes back, and you don’t morph into her puppet again.” Jessica nodded, “That’s fair.” We walked back to the group.
Chase took my hand and linked me, “All good?” I replied, “Yeah, it’s fine.” Chase snorted, “You still don’t like her.” I said, “I don’t know that I can like her. Time will tell, I guess. If Cassandra comes back and she turns back into her little bitch, well… then I won’t hide my contempt for her.” Chase said, “I didn’t ask you to.” I smiled, “I know.” He squeezed my hand, and we went to find our seats.
Haley popped to me and popped us to our seats. She asked me, “Are you good?” I nodded. She smiled. Then the graduates started to walk in. We clapped for them. I recognized Chelsea, Sam, Valerie, and of course Emmaline. I smiled at each of them. The principal welcomed everyone.
Haley grabbed my hand and I turned to her in surprise. She was looking at Emmaline who scratched her back. I raised an eyebrow. Emmaline turned and gave Haley a pleading look. Lucas whispered, “Haley? What’s going on?” Haley answered, “Emmaline’s about to give a speech.” That was evasive.
I turned to look at Logan who was sitting beside Katie. He nodded to me which meant he knew too. The Principal announced Emmaline as the valedictorian, and she got up. She started to walk to the stage, sighed, then popped.
Lucas whispered again, “Haley what is going on?” Emmaline’s dad sat forward, “Shh, I want to hear my little girls’ speech.” Lucas frowned, “I know something is going on.” Haley said nothing which told me something was absolutely going on.
Emmaline greeted, “Hello, fellow graduates and those here to celebrate with us. Today marks a day where we begin a new chapter. I don’t know about you, but I’ll never forget this one. In this chapter, a school burning down led to so many moments I wouldn’t change for the world.” I noticed Katie shifting around in her seat. Odd. I brushed that off.
Emmaline smiled at everyone, “My first day here my classmates from Red Run made sure I knew I wasn’t alone. Drake McAlister being the Beta he is, took me under his wing. I went to my last class and met my three best friends. They immediately welcomed me here. I met my mate and the love of my life.”
She laughed reminiscing, “When we first met, I thought he wanted his coffee that I was holding. All of you collectively lost it that day, and I thought I’d blown everything here by upsetting Lucas Lyons for staring at him too long.” Everyone laughed and she scratched her back again.
Lucas hissed, “Haley what does that mean?” Beta Dylan was oddly silent. I glanced at him, and he was staring at Haley in concentration. Emmaline continued, “I found my family here. Some new and some I never thought I’d have back. I found myself in the halls of that school. I wasn’t the only one who found my mate in those corridors. So many of us found our forever there. We have gone into battle together and grown here in ways I don’t think any of us imagined.”
She proclaimed, “We have formed a bond that can’t be broken by any distance between us through college, or moving states for job opportunities, or mates. I’ll always fight beside you and I know you all would do the same for me. As we start this new chapter of our lives, I know that I’ll always treasure my time here. I look forward to hearing about the new phases of everyone’s lives and seeing if any of our children make us family.” All the girls giggled.
Emmaline scratched her back again. Beta Dylan whispered, “My super special fun sized fairy ninja goddess I need a hint.” Haley said nothing while Logan raised an eyebrow. Emmaline continued, “I can’t wait to see what everyone goes on to do. We’re leaving the school behind, but not each other. Today we are proud of our accomplishments. We celebrate a huge milestone and achievement. Tomorrow, we look towards our next step.”
She huffed, “I have more but I need the principal to hand me my diploma. I’m in labor and feel the urge to sneeze coming on.” Mine was not the only jaw that dropped. Alpha Lucas jumped up yelling, “WHAT?!” He vaulted over the fence and up onto the bleachers. He ran to the stage as Emmaline thanked the principal. Beta Dylan yelled, “Remain calm everyone! The quads are on the way. THE FUTURE ALPHA’S AND LUNA’S ARE COMING! AHHHHHHHHH!”
Eric said, “Way to remain calm, Dylan.” Lacy had run up on stage to get her diploma. Dylan bounced a little boy on his lap. He yelled, “WOOHOOO LACY FROST! SHE IS A GRADUATE EVERYONE!!!!! SHE GRADUATED WITH HER CLASS! WOOHOO!” He whispered to Finn, “Mommy gets to spend so much more time with daddy. Now, we can get you a sibling. A little girl for one of SGAP’s sons. It will be glorious, Finn.” I laughed along with Logan.
Haley popped to the stage with Emmaline’s dad. They popped away with Emmaline and Lucas. Haley popped right back asking, “Who wants a fairy ride back to the hospital?” Dylan squealed, “Oh me! Pick me! TRAVIS! Walk across the stage so I don’t have to run home! I’m so lazy now, running is for losers! We can’t be losers! We are too awesome!”
The principal called Travis’ name. Dylan whistled and yelled, “YES TRAVIS! STRUT ACROSS TO THAT DIPLOMA, LITTLE BROTHER! YOU OWN THAT STAGE!” He snapped several pictures as the girl beside him laughed. Travis ran over to our group.
Beta Dylan kissed his cheek, “I have so much pride it spilleth over. When I get to Lacy, I’ll lay one on her. Then chastise her for popping away without me. Jackie, can you believe she did that to me on this glorious day?” He settled and hugged Travis, “I’m so proud of you, man.” Travis smiled, “Thanks big bro.” Beta Dylan yelled, “Onward to the fairy express! The quads are coming!”
Eric said, “We all know Dylan.” Beta Dylan whispered, “Sshhhhhh SGAP, you embarrass me with your overt displays of love. Your mate is right there. She throws people into the earth and crushes them to death like a valiant winged goddess. I must remain on her good side. You’ll just have to accept that you missed the moment for our time in the sun; holding hands like lovers do.” I bit my lip when Eric growled.
Beta Dylan said, “I know it’s a devastating blow, but we will get through this SGAP. We will.” Haley chuckled, “Ok let’s go before Eric kills my friend Dylan.” Beta Dylan cooed, “Ahhh but you and Lucas are my saviors. SGAP over there loves you something stupid. He’d never kill any of your friends.” Eric grumbled, “I can punch them though.” Beta Dylan clapped, “Right you are my super special fun sized fairy ninja goddess! It’s time to go!” Haley laughed and popped us to the hospital.
Beta Dylan yelled, “We have to run for our lives Finn! LACY! LACY, SAVE ME!” Lacy laughed from the corner asking, “What did you do?” Beta Dylan explained, “I simply told SGAP our time in the sun could never happen. He’s understandably broken-hearted and he’s lashing out.” Lacy laughed.
Eric growled, “Give Lacy the pup, Dylan.” Beta Dylan clutched Finn, “Don’t hurt us, SGAP.” Eric growled, “Give. The. Pup. To. Lacy.” Dylan screamed and ran away screaming, “NEVER! FINN IS NOW A PERMANENT FIXTURE IN MY ARMS!” Eric smiled.
I linked Chase, “Why is he smiling?” Chase answered, “Beta Dylan left and that was his goal.” I snorted, “I think he actually wants to punch him.” Chase smirked, “Not while he’s holding a pup.” Alpha Lucas came out holding a pink blanket. He announced, “Jayden, Jacob, Jade and Julianna are on scene.” I had never wished I was a fairy more than in this moment. I was jealous. So damn jealous of their sneeze.
Emmaline’s dad popped into the room along with Haley. Aiden had even popped in at some point. Alpha Lucas didn’t appear to be happy about that. Haley, Aiden, and Marcious spoke in Fealish to the babies. Chase and Eric surrounded Alpha Lucas.
I walked over to Emmaline asking, “How are you doing?” She smiled, “Good.” Haley held out her hands questioning, “Are you ready for me?” Emmaline answered, “God, yes.” Haley smiled and held her hands over her. It only took five minutes. Then Haley snapped Emmaline into her own clothes.
Emmaline sat back declaring, “My fairy godmother is truly the best.” Haley beamed. Dylan peaked into the room and whispered, “Is it safe?” Emmaline questioned, “Why wouldn’t it be safe? Bring Finn in here to meet his cousins.”
Dylan came in tiptoeing. He agreed, “Fine but Finn doesn’t leave the safety of my arms.” Emmaline chuckled, “Oh boy.” We spent some time there before Oscar popped in. He said, “Congratulations, Duchess Emmaline.” Emmaline smiled, “I’ve told you before it’s just Emmaline.” Oscar smiled, “Of course.” He grabbed Chase and I and popped us home.
