I growled ripping the rest of her outfit off her. She’d lost the jacket at some point. She leaned down to unzip her boots. I growled, “Leave them on.” She smirked, “Oh yeah? The mask and the boots.” I kissed her lips linking her, “Say my name.” I broke our kiss and she whispered, “Chase.” I growled, “That’s not what I meant.” She smirked, “Alpha.”
I bit where her mark should be. She gasped. I said, “I don’t like that your mark is gone.” She argued, “It protects us both. It’s still there, there’s just magic covering it.” I growled, biting her neck hard. She screamed and came.
Matt linked, “Seriously?” I demanded, “Fuck your own mate and leave me alone.” Matt chuckled, “Gladly, Alpha.” He was mocking me, but I didn’t care. I buried myself in her the rest of the night and well into the morning. I pulled her to me saying, “Fiancée sex is great, but I can’t wait until you’re my wife.” Lexi took off her mask and boots. She turned into me admitting, “I can’t wait to be Mrs. Chase Daniels.” I kissed her forehead and we fell asleep.
Pemberley
Lexi shivered when Chase talked about her BA outfit. I teased him watching his eyes flicker to black. He clearly won the fight with Bolt though since his eyes didn’t remain black. I didn’t even care he ripped my whole outfit off. I had more.
He wanted me to leave the mask and boots on. Oh really? The boots? Haley would DIE knowing he didn’t want me to take the boots off. Damn. Even before she started having sex Haley was getting men riled up. She was the one who’d snapped me the boots, mask, and jacket on our first mission together.
He didn’t like my mark being hidden, but he had to know it was best people couldn’t see it. If people knew he was my mate they would come for him. They would also learn my real identity. It would be bad.
We lost all semblance of control for several hours. When we were done, I felt like I could finally breathe. Our kids were safe, and we were getting married. Everything was finally falling into place. I couldn’t wait to be his wife.
The next day I woke up and looked for the bassinets before I remembered they weren’t in here. It was a little odd without the twins being in our room, but it didn’t feel like I couldn’t breathe like in the past. I heard Emmett starting to make noise on the monitor. It was so strange I could tell the difference between their cries, and which twin it was.
I went into the nursery and decided to breastfeed him since he was up. Emma woke up mid feed. Frank came in with a bottle. He smiled saying, “I hope you don’t mind.” I assured him, “Not at all.” He picked up Emma as Chase walked in. Chase teased his dad, “One morning, I get to feed one of them. Right, dad?” Frank said, “If you’re faster than me.” Chase and I laughed.
He jokingly asked, “Do you have a secret monitor or something, dad?” Frank said, “I will never reveal my secrets.” He left with Emma as Chase laughed. Once Emmett was done feeding Chase asked, “Can I see him?” I agreed, “Of course.” I watched Chase with our son. I stood and put my arms around him. I whispered, “You are really good with him. You’re such a good dad.” Chase smirked, “I love him and Emma. I will always protect you all.” I frowned, “We are safe now, Chase.” I studied him closely.
I closed my eyes realizing that I might have disregarded Hanson’s words, but Chase didn’t. I said, “You believe Hanson.” Chase seemed to consider his words carefully, “I believe the ring is much larger than we ever suspected. I don’t know their rules, but I won’t leave your life, Emma, or Reagan’s to chance.” I argued, “We can’t live in fear that someone MIGHT come now. The big threats are gone.” Chase assured me, “I don’t intend to live in fear. I intend to be vigilant and make sure you are safe.”
I frowned asking, “What does that mean?” Chase kissed my forehead, “I don’t know yet. I know that Emma will have a pack guard on her. I’m not going to try and keep her under lock and key. I’m just going to make sure she is safe. I will make sure you are as safe as you can be too. If you go somewhere as BA….” He trailed off and I raised an eyebrow.
He admitted, “I don’t know, take Haley with you?” I laughed, “I doubt your buddy Eric would be cool with that.” Chase shrugged, “I don’t care if he’s mad at me if it means you are as safe as you can possibly be.” I told him, “I go out with Haley when that’s ordered. I like going with her, but her dad has an agreement with Eric. She only goes so much now.”
Chase sighed, “Well, maybe all the ones she does go on she's with you. Plus, let’s be honest if you needed help or got hurt, she’d go to you. Thanksgiving proved that. That wasn’t a Hackura mission.” I bobbed my head, “That’s true. She will always come if I need help. It’s who she is, but I can’t ask her to come with me every time. We have our purpose and Hackura have theirs. Our missions are not always in line with theirs.”
Chase asked, “Did you know they’d been looking into rings since Titus and Zader were younger?” I said, “I know Zader got seriously injured. Titus and his dad, Haley’s grandfather, had to go save him. I know Zader doesn’t leave their realm anymore and Titus allows that. I didn’t know why. It doesn’t surprise me though that they’ve known.”
I admitted, “What does surprise me is they didn't know the fairies had one. They watched them closely and waited for news about Haley. It concerns me that the fairies were able to keep this huge secret from even the Hackura. Granted, I don’t think others can do that on that large a scale since the Hackura can go into every other realm with or without an invitation. They aren’t infallible though. I know that and so do they. They have their hands in lots of things. It’s inevitable that they miss things.”
Chase raised an eyebrow, “That was a lot of information I didn’t ask for.” I sighed, “I’m trying to tell you what I know. Just because I’m friends with them doesn’t mean they share all their intel with me. Just like I don’t share all my intel with them. I guarantee you Haley has NO fucking clue they’ve been looking into rings. They wouldn’t have told her. They might have to now, but I really don’t know.”
Chase told me, “Eric knows they have been.” I said, “That doesn’t mean he will tell her. Haley has the ability to separate things that a lot of people don’t. She will accept that as an Alpha, Eric has things he needs to keep from her. Same with her brothers; including Aiden. She knows their positions mean they have to do that sometimes.”
I paused before adding, “Now she has the partial fairies to protect, but she already knew that. She knows just because her brothers have the list doesn’t mean everyone was found. I guarantee you that she knows Aiden is still looking into making sure he squashed the problem in his realm. If I was her, I’d be a little afraid that someone could fly under the radar. That someone will try to get her back into the ring, but no one is going to let that happen.”
Chase said, “Then you can understand the lengths I will go to for you, Emma, and Reagan. I can’t have that happen to you guys. I can’t. I don’t pretend to know everything Haley went through, but I will NOT have Emma brought up that way. It’s sick and she’s my little girl. You’re my mate. I know you, and you’d fight them. They’d try to break you, but they’d realize they can’t eventually. They could kill you and I can’t…” His voice broke.
I went to him, took Emmett from him, put him down in his crib, and hugged Chase. I said, “Hey, I’m here. Emma is here. If having shadows on us makes you feel better, then fine. I make no promises about not losing anyone besides Kincade or Kevin. Though Kincade IS the lead warrior and I’m sure you have other things for him to do now that I’m here with you.”
Chase laughed, “He was on you because he’s my best. I will have to talk with him about permanent options though.” I teased, “There you go. I knew you needed him.” Chase kissed me. He said, “I love you Lexi soon to be Daniels.” I laughed, “I love you too, Chase Daniels.” He left.
I picked Emmett back up saying, “Daddy is a worrier. I’m sure it’s a trait you two will share.” Emmett giggled. I teased, “See? You already know, you little stinker. While you grow up though I’ll remind you that Emma and I are just as capable as you and your daddy at taking care of ourselves.” He blew his lips together. I laughed, “Let’s go find your sister and go to mommy’s office.”
Chester, Ithios, and Uther faded in. I smiled asking, “You guys are going home, right?” They all nodded. Uther said, “It was an honor to guard you, Lexi Scott.” I smiled, “It was an honor that all of you came to guard me. Where’s Youngers?” Uther smiled, “He’s saying goodbye to your Alpha.” I laughed, “Hopefully Chase doesn’t slam the door on his ass.” Uther laughed, “Your wolf is not fast enough for that. He is a good man though.” I agreed, “He is.” Uther kissed my hand, “I’m sure I will see you around. Stay safe and call if you ever need me.” I nodded, “Thank you, Uther.” They opened a portal and left.
The last few weeks before the wedding flew by. Before I knew it, the week of my wedding was upon us. Ted and I were so busy with events that I felt like I’d blinked and we were here. We were so on top of the wedding plans that it wasn’t even a concern.
An Omega from our pack named CeCe came to me early in the week. She timidly knocked on my door and asked, “Luna?” I smiled, “CeCe, it’s just Lexi.” She smiled, “Well, I was just wondering, I have some Omega friends from other packs...” She didn’t continue. I asked, “And?” She blurted out, “Can they come to the wedding?” I admitted, “I’m not sure how big the venue is. How many people are we talking about?”
She twiddled her thumbs answering, “Twenty of them have asked if they could come. They are unmated and with all the Hood members coming they just want to see if they could meet their mate.” I asked, “Ted?” Ted answered, “We can do twenty extra people with the space.” I questioned her, “What packs?” CeCe answered, “Blue Moon, Black Mountain, and Red Run.” I agreed, “That’s not a problem CeCe. Tell them they are welcome to come.” She hugged me and left.
Ted teased, “Your wedding is now a potential string finding day.” I laughed, “We will see.” Two days before the wedding I heard a pop. I smiled, “Hello, Hales.” Haley’s tone was mischievous, “Lex.” I asked, “What brings you here?” Haley squealed, “WE HAVE TO GO OUT!” I laughed asking, “Why?” She answered, “You’re getting married in two days! It’s a BAD ASS GIRL GANG’S NIGHT OUT!”
I teased, “Oh yeah?” Haley yelled, “FUCK YEAH!” I questioned, “What are we doing?” Haley replied coyly, “You love dancing.” I agreed, “I do.” Haley clapped excitedly explaining, “We are going to the club in the Hackura realm.”
