Chase came barreling into my room moments later. I assured him, “I’m ok now, Chase. I know you have things to do. I do too, it’s ok.” Chase frowned asking, “What does that mean?” I said, “Not unlike you do things for our family, I do too.” Chase questioned, “You’re ok?” I promised, “I am.” Chase kissed me, “I can stay with you. My dad has things handled.” I said, “Go, be the Alpha. I’m ok, I promise.”
Once Chase left, I thought about Oscar and linked him, “Oscar?” Oscar replied, “Stop shouting! I can hear you fine.” I winced, “Sorry. Can you pop to me with Jenna?” Oscar said, “Ahhh, finally a request where I get to bring Jenna. I sense something interesting afoot.” He was right.
Seconds later Jenna and Oscar appeared. I turned my gaze to my soon to be sister in law, “Susie, would you like to go play with Sebastian? Oscar can pop you, your mom, and Jenna to Red Run to play.” Susie’s eyes lit up while Nadine’s narrowed.
Oscar rubbed his hands together, “OHHH I like it. The Alpha and former Alpha get all twitchy about little Susie with Sebastian.” Jenna laughed and swatted him. He asked, “What? Finally! A request to pop where I get to bring you. We can scout out fun places around to….”
Nadine cut him off, “Little ears.” He smiled. Nadine asked, “Lexi? What are you up to?” I admitted, “I have an idea, I just need to be sure Susie is safe.” Nadine cautioned, “Don’t do anything rash.” I assured her, “I’m not going alone, and it’s not rash. In fact, it’s long overdue.”
Nadine sighed, “Alright. Tell Chase though.” I said, “I’m going to tell him.” Oscar winked at me, “What a fairy like answer. I am so proud.” He wiped a fake tear out of his eye and popped out with Jenna, Nadine, and Susie.
Ted chimed in, “When are you going to tell Chase?” I looked out at my protection detail and replied, “Soon.” I turned back to him, “Ted, call Haley.” Ted sighed in relief, “I’m feeling better about the plan already.” Ted dialed Haley’s number. She must have answered because he looked at me, questions written on his face.
I instructed, “Tell her to pop Eric to the main house and then pop to us.” Ted relayed the message. A few minutes passed when Haley popped to us. She looked at me and frowned. She said, “You don’t need to be healed. Why the fuck are you hooked up to all of these machines? I nearly had a heart attack. Chase said you were in the hospital. He didn’t say you were fucking fine, and then the monitors were all hooked up and beeping. Are people trying to piss me off? I do understand not everything is about me, but this feels targeted. Why didn’t anyone say you were fucking fine?”
Dr. April came in, “Her blood pressure was high, even for her.” Haley argued, “Of fucking course it was. The fucking Troll keeps trying to make her feel unsafe in places she should be safe. It’s very Fabian of him.” I was startled because Haley was right, but Fabian was dead. How could he be giving advice like this? I stored that away.
Dr. April said, “Your blood pressure has gone down.” She unhooked me from all the monitors and ordered me, “Stay in bed though.” Sure. I had no plans of doing that at all. Period. Haley waited until she left then asked, “What’s the plan?” I smiled, happy she knew there was a plan.
I gestured, “Space unheard.” Haley nodded and did her chant. I teased her, “Who says there’s a plan?” Haley laughed, “Me. I know you quite well. You called me because you have a fucking plan.” I explained, “I think I know who Betty Newcome is. Leaving the present in my office was not smart. Uther would’ve done a perimeter sweep before the party.”
Haley said, “He did.” I reasoned, “So someone at the party brought the present and left it.” Haley pursed her lips then grinned. She clapped, “Please tell me you think it’s who I think it is. OH MY FUCKING GOD! It’s too damn good. I knew it was going to be a good day today.”
Before I could answer her Ted asked, “Would that be because your mother-in-law got shipped off to Montana?” I yelled, “She what?” Haley said, “That was last weekend, but things have been much less tense.”
I yelled, “Hold on. Cassandra, the Wicked Witch of the Black Mountain pack, got shipped off?! TO MONTANA?!” Haley frowned, “She’s not a witch, trust me. I looked through her family tree. I was hoping for a dash of witch bitch blood, but alas there isn’t any. She’s all wolf with some human blood thrown in.”
I laughed, “One day we will have watch theWizard of Oz. Why didn’t you tell me she’d been sent away?” Haley shrugged, “I was going to, but lots of shit keeps happening.” I pressed, “So, Eric sent her away?”
Haley nodded, “Yes, he told her to get her head on straight. Which I assume is saying since it is physically on her body correctly. She told me to get past our issues, and I basically told her to eat shit.” I laughed, “Did you really?” Haley said, “She said she wanted us to have a relationship. I said we would have nothing past being mother and daughter in law. I’m not going to be her damn confidant.” Good.
Haley continued, “My therapist said it’s ok not to be friends with everyone. I don’t need her to like me. Just to respect me. I don’t want to be her friend anymore. She showed me who she was, and I believe her. I won’t be lulled back into her fucking trap to be slapped in the face when I do something she doesn’t like again, and she cuts me out.”
She shook her head, “Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice then I’m the idiot waiting for someone to catch a spritle with. No one ever wanted to catch a spritle with me. I am much fucking smarter than I used to be.” I laughed, “That’s not the saying it’s fool me twice shame on me.” Haley replied, “Tomato, Potato.” I laughed, “That’s…. never mind.”
Sally questioned me, “Who do you think it is? Please don’t say you think it's my mom. She would never hurt you.” I assured her, “Sally, I’ve met your mom’s parents. Besides, Betty wanted me with Noah. Your mom would one hundred percent want better than Noah for you, but she wouldn’t try to get him with me. That would’ve hurt you at the time he was yours.”
Ted said, “I know you don’t think it’s my mom. You’ve met her parents too.” I agreed, “Yes, and Anne wouldn’t have been attacked if it was her.” Sally said, “That leaves Susanna’s adoptive parents, Denise, and a few others.”
Haley sneered, “It’s the fucking Troll’s mom. Come on now people. Who the fuck could be eviler than the birther of the fucking Troll?” I quietly agreed, “I think it is.” Ted argued, “No way. My mom said she was torn up over your mom’s death. They were friends.”
I explained, “I don’t think she killed her. I don’t even think she thought they would die, or she would’ve gotten me out of the house. Maybe they weren’t supposed to die, maybe something went wrong, but I just need to run a play.”
Haley offered, “I saw her go into your damn office.” Sally bit her lip adding, “She asked me which one was yours.” I winced admitting, “Plus, there’s something else. I finally remember where I’ve seen Lizzy’s eyes.” Everyone frowned. I knew I was right though. It made sense. I texted Heath. Haley gasped, “Fuck me.” She’d figured it out fast. Ted and Sally were still confused.
Me:Are you here?
Heath:Yes
Me:Where is Allie?
Heath:I left her with the Calvert’s. Why?
I bolted up in the bed then called Allie. Allie answered, “Hey...” I rushed, “Don’t say my name. Say I’m Heath.” Allie didn’t even falter, “Heath, what’s up?” I instructed, “Now you’re going to say he forgot something because he left in a rush.”
Allie laughed, “You forgot your file? Well, you did run out of here with your hair on fire.” I told her, “Say you’ll get it and bring it to him, and that you’ll take Isaiah.” Allie chuckled, “Well, I think you’re being a bit overdramatic, but I’ll grab the file. Fine. I’ll even bring Isaiah to run with me. I am perfectly capable of running by myself.”
I ordered, “Leave the house with me on the phone.” Allie said, “I’m literally walking out the door back to our house. Thank you, Denise, and Edgar!” I heard Edgar say, “I can come with you.” Allie replied, “That’s fine. Company to the house would be nice.”
