I mouthed to Ted, “Call Isaiah.” Ted called Isaiah and told him to get to Allie at Heath’s house. Allie laughed, “See how protected I am? And I see Isaiah waiting for me.” I urged her, “Do not hang up until you and Isaiah are outside the Shroud.”

I looked at my best friend, “Haley, I need you to pop them here.” Haley nodded. Allie called, “Thanks, Edgar! Have a good day.” Edgar said, “You too. I hope Lexi’s blood pressure goes down.” I heard running.

Then she said, “We are in Sophia’s territory, Lexi.” Haley popped. I heard Allie say, “Oh!” Then Allie and Isaiah were in front of me. I breathed a sigh of relief.” Allie questioned, “What’s going on?” I said, “I’m running a play.” I texted my brother again.

Me:She’s with me now.

Heath:I know. Edgar just told me that per my instructions Allie was on her way to me with a file. What damn file? What’s going on?

Me:I’m running a play. I don’t think she was safe there.

Heath:Why not?

Me:You know why.

Heath:You think Denise is Betty

Me:Yes.

Heath:No, not her.

Me:I’m going to prove it. I need you to wait fifteen minutes then call me. I’m not going alone, and you guys are following. I might end up calling sooner, but if you don’t hear from me in fifteen. Call.

Heath:Your wolf is going to shit bricks.

Me:He wouldn’t let me go, and we need this. I need this. My children need this. I can’t keep being scared, throwing my blood pressure out of whack and possibly hurting the twins. They messed up having her deliver the present yesterday. It’s a big mistake and we need to move before they realize it.

Heath:You could be wrong.

Me:I’m not. I wish I was too, but I can feel I’m right.

I called Uncle Jordan. He answered immediately, “Lexi?” I said, “Meet me outside the place where my parents are buried. Bring Jasper, James, and any of the cousins who are archers. Get in a perch far back and be ready.”

Uncle Jordan questioned, “Lexi, what are you doing?” I explained, “I believe I know who Betty Newcome is and I’m bringing her there. She’s going to think I’m alone, but I’m not. Don’t let her sense you.” Uncle Jordan pointed out, “You never sensed me when I checked on you. I am good at that. I’ll bring Jasper and James. James and I are the archers. Is Heath coming?” I answered, “Yes, but you’ll get there first. Get there now.” Uncle Jordan chuckled, “You are so very much like your father.” He hung up.

I took a deep breath and called Denise. She answered, “Lexi?” I proceeded to lie my ass off, “We need to meet up. I know we don’t see eye to eye on Noah, but I was hoping you could talk to him. I know Sally’s rejection must have driven him mad with hurt. I’m sure you have a drop to talk to him. I don’t want him to die. Your family has meant so much to Heath and me. It would tear Heath apart if Noah died. My blood pressure is going insane from this stress. I think you and I could solve this together.”

Denise was quiet for several moments. She said, “Your string wants him dead.” I reasoned, “I know, but we can work around him. Heath and Noah have been best friends their entire lives. We can come up with some sort of house arrest or something.”

I admitted, “I don’t want to give birth with this handing over my head. I was in the kitchen this morning and it was just so suffocating thinking about bringing them into the world with this happening. It can’t continue. Let’s meet and we can figure this out together. It’s what my mom would’ve wanted me to do. I’ve been thinking of her so often lately.”

Denise sighed, “So have I. Alright. Where do you want to meet?” I answered, “Outside the place we buried my parents. I’m leaving now so I’ll see you there in ten minutes. Does that sound good?” Denise answered, “Of course, Lexi. I’m so glad you came to me.” I responded, “You’ve been like a mother to me. There was a time I thought you’d be my mother-in-law.” Denise said, “I thought so too. I’ll be there soon.” I hung up.

Haley spoke first, “Damn. It’s so unfair how other people can just lie like that. I want to fucking do that!” I winked at her and dialed one more number. The surprise in his tone when he answered hurt a little, “Lexi?” I instructed, “Get to the spot where my parents are buried and stay hidden. There are some things you need to know. I’d want to know if I were you.”

I heard him sigh, “Right now?” I answered, “Yes, and stay hidden no matter how upset you get. Promise me.” I heard shuffling then, “I promise.” I told him, “I think a lot of things will make sense to you. I know you’ve always felt something missing from your life. I know what it is.” He said, “I’m on my way.” I hung up.

I turned to Haley, “Can my protection tell Chase what I’m doing if I bring them with us?” Haley replied, “Not if you command them not to as their Luna.” I waved Kincade, Ken, Kevin, and Kyler in. Kincade immediately questioned, “What are you doing?”

I ordered, “As your Luna, I command you not to share with anyone, including Chase, for the next ten minutes what I’m about to say to you.” Each of them frowned. I laid out the plan, “Kincade and Kevin are coming with me to bring Betty Newcome in. Kyler and Ken you get men on all the borders. Specifically with Alpha Sophia.” They nodded and left.

I continued, “Sally, call Sophia in seven minutes and tell her to be on alert.” Sally nodded. I said, “Ted….” Ted cut me off saying, “Don’t even say I’m not coming. I’ve got my gun, and I’m ready.” From the way his jaw was set, I knew I wouldn’t win an argument with him right now. I agreed, “Fine, then you stick with Haley.”

Uther and Blade stepped forward. Blade said, “Princess go, Blade go.” I knew that was coming, “Fine.” Uther said, “If you go Lexi, I go. She won’t sense us, and I will be the closest to you.” I nodded. I said, “Haley, please pop our group to my parents’ gravesite. Allie, stay with Sally please.”

Allie nodded. She stepped forward and hugged me. She said, “Be safe, Lexi.” I said, “I will.” Haley took my hand and popped our group to the clearing. She began to pop everyone around to their spots and made sure they couldn’t be sensed. Something she said she could do now because of her powers.

Kincade asked, “When are you telling the Alpha?” I assured him, “Right now. I need you to call Cameron and tell him to be on alert then get to your position.” Kincade sighed, “I’ll call Alpha Cameron. Who, for the record, will turn around and call his brother.” He took out his phone.
