Another man carrying Opal came into the room. He dropped her like a sack of potatoes. He smiled at James saying, “Here’s your traitor, little brother. I do hope this is seen as an I come in peace offer to you, Heath.”
Both Beta Alfred’s ran to Opal. Senior growled at the man, “WHAT IS THE MEANING OF THIS?” Heath ignored them saying, “That would make you Jasper then.” Jasper smiled, “It does make me Jasper. Alpha Chase, when I pictured meeting you, you were not this pale. Someone get the man a chair. Maybe a glass of juice, and slice of that cake.”
James turned to Beta Alfred Senior and Junior. He said, “I don’t give a single fuck who this woman is to you. I redialed the number that called and told Lexi about Sophia and Chase. She answered it. Jasper traced the number for me and found her.”
I growled, “WHAT?!” Sophia slithered over, “Opal?” Apparently, she could still talk in snake form. Sophia linked me, “It’s kind of cool I can still talk.” I agreed, “It is.” Opal shouted, “They are crazy! I was kidnapped.”
Haley popped in front of her, “Did you intentionally tell Lexi about Chase and Sophia being married?” Her life depended on that answer. Opal looked into her eyes, “Yes, I called pretending to need an anniversary party planned. My son needs Chase and Sophia distracted so they don’t see him coming.”
I broke her arm. I didn’t even register I’d moved. She screamed as several people pushed me back and held me down. Bolt snarled, “Let me out.” My dad linked me, “Let us get answers here.” Bolt huffed in annoyance but agreed.
Haley punched her in the face. Beta Alfred Senior asked, “Opal? What are you talking about? Our son can’t….” Opal laughed, “Not our son, Alfred. My and Alpha Allister’s son.” Sophia asked, “I’m sorry, what?” Opal looked away from Haley, but she grabbed her chin and forced her to look at her.
She ordered, “Tell us the plan.” Opal explained, “My sister’s mate died, and she went into heat. Alpha Allister couldn’t resist. I went to a witch once my sister had left the pack. I knew when Alpha Allister went on his runs. I timed them for months because he belonged with me. I just knew I was meant for someone in power. I took the potion to make me go into heat. He came upon me and couldn’t resist. I went away to have our pup. I had to make sure it was a son. When I came to tell him, he’d met his stupid mate! She ruined everything! She was pregnant with you, Sophia. A girl. I killed her before she could have a boy.” Good lord, this meeting was insane.
Opal spat at her, “But your father he wouldn’t see reason about you being his successor. I gave him so many chances, but eventually my son grew impatient. Pretending to love you Alfred Senior and Junior was the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I had you wrapped around my finger though. Didn’t I?”
Sophia asked, “You’re going to kill her aren’t you, Princess? Because if you don’t, I am.” I growled, “I will.” Haley answered, “Fuck yes I am.” Sophia said, “That’s why Tyson didn’t want you to know he was your nephew and my half-brother.” Opal flinched, “NO! NO! Tenley wasn’t pregnant.”
My dad said, “Tyson is Tenley and Alpha Allister’s son. If your son plans to come against Sophia, he’ll face them both. As your sister is older than you, Tyson will be stronger than your son. Stop this madness.”
Opal laughed, “Alpha Hammond trained him, and he runs with witches! He’ll have Hammond’s pack and Sophia’s! My son will rule!” I asked, “What of your other pups?” Opal scoffed, “They are nothing. Just tools I used to control their father. He never suspected me.”
Alfred Senior had tears rolling down his face. Junior punched her in the face, “My siblings are NOT tools! They are great pups!” Opal said, “They are nothing like my Eddie! He is perfect!” Sophia asked, “Eddie? Eddie Liman?” She knew him?!
Opal laughed, “Yes, Alpha Hammond was stupid and went to that mating ceremony, but Eddie stayed back making excuses. He’s so smart. Now he has Hood help too.” Heath hissed, “Noah.” Opal said, “That’s the name I know.” Haley shouted with swirling colored eyes, “HIS NAME IS THE FUCKING TROLL YOU BITCH!” She punched Opal in the face again.
Alfred Senior went to his knees. Alpha Eric asked, “Where is your son, Opal?” Opal admitted, “I never know where he is. Just in case we got caught.” Alpha Eric sighed, “Angel, kill her.” Haley scoffed, “I think that would be too nice. Bjourn, torture the shit out of her.”
Alpha Eric interjected, “That would torture Alfred Senior. He’s marked her.” Haley hissed. Then she grinned, almost wicked, and spoke in Fealish. King Aiden laughed and replied. Haley focused all her attention on Opal. A white glow was passing between her and Opal. Alfred Senior went to the ground in pain.
Dylan was hitting Alpha Lucas again. He bounced up and down, “She’s taking her wolf so her brother can torture her! His wolf won’t care that she's in pain, it will be irritating but nothing like if she had her wolf. I LOVE HER, LUCAS!”
I asked, “Haley is doing what now?” Alpha Eric reiterated, “She’s taking Opal’s wolf.” As if that was a normal thing that happened. Opal screamed, “Where is Di? Why won’t she talk to me?” Haley sneered at her, “I sent your wolf back to the Moon Goddess. She BEGGED me to send her away from you. She hates you!”
Senior sat up in shock. Haley looked at her brother, “Take her home, brother. She does not leave alive for what she did to Lexi.” Bjourn smirked, “Can I open a portal?” Haley answered, “You always had the ability to. I said only the WOLVES couldn’t leave.” Bjourn kissed the top of her head, “You are amazing, little sister. I don’t like leaving you like this though. Your feelings still worry me. You feel as though you are teetering on the edge of something and anything could set you off.”
He shot a glare at Cassandra then said, “Marcus.” Prince Marcus assured him, “I’ve got our little one brother. Go on.” King Titus was still in the corner with Prince Harper. Both nodded at Bjourn. I linked Matt, “This isn’t over then if her anger is still teetering.” Matt replied, “Probably not. Mental note, pissing off a Fairy Hackura Princess under the constraints of magic we don’t understand is a SUPER bad call.” That honestly seemed like an understatement. To be fair, King Aiden warned us all. He even had a meeting with me about it. Which meant he likely saw Sophia too.
Dylan squealed, “Is no one going to comment on the fact that Alpha Sophia is a talking snake? No? Just me? That’s fine. I’ll go back to my popcorn, loving our live rendition of Kaa fromThe Jungle Book. We are in aDisneylive action people! LOOK ALIVE!”
Alpha Eric asked, “Angel, can you turn her back?” Haley answered, “Yes.” Marcus snorted, “Will you?” Haley replied, “Eventually.” Alpha Eric sighed and picked up snake Sophia and put her on the table. I was pretty sure he was linking her. I wondered what he said.
When he sat down it was his turn to talk, “You took over your pack before your father decided you were ready. You know that, right?” Sophia said, “Yes, but he was murdered by that bitch and her son a few hours before my eighteenth birthday.” It still hurt to hear. That was rough.
Alpha Eric acknowledged, “Yes, and as your allies we failed you. For that I am sorry. I mistakenly thought you had Former Beta Alfred Sr. giving you good advice but you didn’t. Did she, Senior? You figured out the murders in your pack and instead of getting help you took advantage of Sophia’s grief. You kept her from being the Alpha she was meant to be, in your own quest for revenge. Which is ironic since you were mated to the woman who took your mate from you.”
Sophia growled, “I can run my pack.” Alpha Eric agreed, “You can but you’re not the Alpha you are meant to be right now. One day I believe you will be. That day is not today. Heath Scott is right you need to find yourself. We failed you. We should’ve had a mentor for you whether you wanted it or not.” Her snake self seemed to frown at him.
He continued, “Alpha Kyle’s sister’s mate just passed away in a rogue attack. They didn’t have pups, and she doesn’t want to stay in his pack. She was looking to come home to Red Run. I asked Alpha Kyle if she would mentor you while she was here. Her mate had her included in all their pack meetings and she has Alpha blood as you do. I thought she would be perfect.”
He rubbed his temples, “Now, I need to see if she’s willing to live in your territory and guide you as your father would’ve. It was callous of us all not to give you someone even though you said no several times. We could’ve prevented a lot of this. You spent a vital year where you should’ve been preparing to be an Alpha taking care of your sick father instead of learning how to run a pack and be an ally.”
My eyes widened. Everyone was nodding their heads in agreement. Sophia hissed, “You won’t take my pack from me.” Alpha Eric stood and put his hands on the table, “If I wanted your pack, I could twitch my index finger and take it. I’m not doing that. I’m giving you a mentor you should’ve had all along. You had selfish people around you, and you became selfish. You have been a numb shell of the woman we all know you can be. My Angel seems to think that was façade because she found something about your dealings. All of which are impressive.”
He shook himself, “You should’ve called your allies discreetly about your Beta being kidnapped. Hell, you should’ve linked us. You don’t trust anyone and that’s not an alliance. You manipulated Alpha Chase to marry you when nobody was here to give advice, and then you refused to stay true to your word and give him an annulment. And hasn’t that just gone swimmingly? I’m giving you this chance quite frankly because my mate argued for it. She argued we saw the Alpha you could be, or we wouldn’t have been your allies in the first place. Take it or I dissolve our alliance, AND I'll take your pack. I won’t have an unstable area around my land.”
Dylan groaned, “MOON GODDESS NOT AGAIN! Alpha Sophia, that is SO MUCH paperwork. If GAP dissolves, my Alpha will do it, then Alpha Kyle will do it, Alpha Skywalker over there will lead the damn charge jumping on board first. For the sake of all Beta’s, don’t do this to us.”
